Interestingly, the Roger Albert Clark press release about Economical impact implies that the average amount spent by each competitor in prep & running for that event only, is about £15,000.
There is no lack of money in the sport, and no lack of Mk2 Escorts.
That sounds remarkably low , depending how they define running and prep ? Obviously no entry fee , but service barge(s) , hotels for all , tyres fuel plus all the other spares , and that’s without prep which more like than not near enough a rebuild. There is no lack of money in the sport, and no lack of Mk2 Escorts.

Around £2.5 million will be spent on entering the event, providing consumables like tyres and fuel, car preparation, on event servicing, post event repairs and rebuilds and new car builds specifically for the rally. It also covers professional preparation teams and hired mechanics who will work for nearly a week on the rally.
A similar amount, estimated to be more than £2.5 million, will be injected into the regional economies of the areas where the rally is based. This is particularly relevant for Carmarthen in West Wales, where the start will be held, and for the Carlisle region where the rally will be based from Friday night onwards.
So my rough £15,000 per entry covers the first part, i.e. entry - prep - consumables, and a total of £2.5m for the whole rally for accom, food etc - but that second part covers competing crews and marshals, organisers, spectators etc.A similar amount, estimated to be more than £2.5 million, will be injected into the regional economies of the areas where the rally is based. So, I would guess the average cost per crew (all-in) is about £20,000 with the minimum you could get away with something like £10,000 - the entry fee alone is £4,900. Obviously there are many, many people spending a lot more on this.

But for the youngsters we need some sort of single-make competitive field somewhere. Europe manages it.
I read on Facebook that Hyundai are about to introduce a one-make series for i20 N (same base model as the Rally1 / Rally2 car) in Spain. We are in the wrong country!
If you look at the basics of the RAC it is a bit of a one off.
I would think a lot of crews treat it JUST like the proper RAC used to be, in that it is the highlight of their season, it is worthy saving up for, other events can be sacrificed for it. There are obviously some who do umpteen rallies a year and this is one of them, but for ALL of them this will be the highlight.
Why? Because it is a proper rally spread over many days and many areas of the UK, that has an impact on it's popularity I would imagine too, you get a lot for your money. And the people who are happy to pay it obviously agree or it would not have the entries it does. the Classic is not worth it, but continues to get massive entries despite the costs as do Goodwood and stuff like Le Mans Classic. Some events have that pulling power.
Personlly I think the ONLY other UK rally that could manage this is a proper, PROPER Circuit of Ireland, and maybe a proper Manx International.
It is a portal into the old days, with the cars, aspects of the route, stages, and timing. Not many other rallies continue to do this, and I doubt it would be so popular if there were a round of the WRC here, but even then it is a totally different event, it is our Goodwood.
Regarding UK rallying overall, I think the MSUK have little appetite for it, I think they are scared witless of rallying to be honest and have been since the awful incidents we all know about, and I think they just allow it to carry on but in a very restricted way for all sorts of people.
A lot of it is not their fault, insurance has a lot to answer for in ruining it in many ways, but that is the world we live in.

None of the importers in the UK are interested in doing anything rally related.....and in all honesty you can't blame them. We haven't done enough in the last 15-20 years to attract them......

And some more, that could lower the entry point for current model cars to compete in homologated form:https://dirtfish.com/rally/fia-confirms-new-rally5...
Regardless of the state of doom & gloom, the RAC entry is fecking incredible.
Meeke, Solberg, Ingram, McCormak, Osian Pryce, Jason Pritchard are some of the stars of UK and world rallying. Then you have young Seb Perez in his dad’s stratos, Gregoire De Mauvis in a 240RS, Mr Tuthill himself in a 911 etc etc.
Time to celebrate a little - historic rallying in this country is in a bloody good place.

Not WRC, and no longer ERC, but is still a decent event, and kick starts the rally season: the Jannerrallye, from Austria. Chris Ingram has an entry. Live stream on You Tube:

whilst this video has little to do with rallying, it is interesting in the context of forest access and sustainability - which is a problem for UK forest rallying.

It is very good news - an hour long highlights show is a vast improvement on what we've had recently. They'll also announce other updates to their media output.....
One hopes that it is an improvement as well.......You Tube is the place for the live coverage, not Facebook.
but is there even an hours worth of coverage? One hopes that it is an improvement as well.......You Tube is the place for the live coverage, not Facebook.

Changes to the popular Woodpecker Stages.........the stages in Haye Park & Hopton are unavailable.......Slightly worrying, as we know what that usually means.
