Grenadier Orders-How Have You Spec'd Yours?

Saw a couple on tour last week, instantly appealing on the road so went down to have a look at the pre-production car at the local dealership this morning.

I totally fell for it.

Coming from a twin-cab pick up there will be compromises in the load area but nothing that I can see putting me off completely.

I was told around 70% of orders are commercial station wagon diesels, which I imagine I'd go for.

Other than that, the must haves for me are;

Roof rack
Rear ladder
Heated seats
Tow bar
Reversing camera
Front parking sensors
Black paint

The nice to haves;

18" alloys
Leather interior
Smooth pack
Donny grey paint

The might haves;
Side steps

I guess a lot hinges on just how nice it is to drive but everyone seems to say it is astoundingly good on road-the off-road for what I use it for will be fine.

The astounding thing once seeing one up close is not how expensive it could be for a commercial, it's how cheap it actually is for the money compared to a really nice twin cab pick up (now easily £40k + VAT).

Quite a variety of specs when you look at the cars for sale.

Lots of cars without the rough pack (axle diff locks) and without safari windows, that’s two things that were must-haves for me. Lots with alloys, carpet and leather - things I really don’t want!

When you put those together it sounds like people trying to make a luxury SUV - which it’s not going to be great at.

Donny grey and black are most popular colours by a fair margin, also my two favourites. The white is ok, the tan (magic mushroom!!) looks good in some pics but I suspect might be awful in the metal

On our test the other day, I totally fell for the sky blue colour with the white (or is it cream) roof-if I was going for that I'd get steelies and powder coat them to match the white roof-but them I'm a total tart!

I really like that!

I’m sure when the first configurator went live you could have white/cream wheels.

I initially thought if i was ordering one new I’d go for green with white roof and white wheels but it’s maybe a trying a little bit too hard to look like an old defender.

Ticked mostly every box except for saddle leather - wish I’d have gone for that now.

I bought mine “used”, 139 miles on the clock and pretty much the only option missing I wanted was the saddle leather. I do wonder if it can be retrofitted

I quite like the look of the Quartermaster - when speccing new are there deals to be done if buying direct from Grenadier or indeed their Retailers or is the price the price ?

There are no dealers, just agents who will hand your car over, you order direct from Ineos.

The contracts may say agent but the're acting like dealers and now have stock cars. I got an email with a low rate finance deal on cars at retailers so...discounts are not far away. The agent I stopped at had six. Supply is evidently exceeding "built-to-order direct with Ineos" demand.

Discounts are certainly to be had on pre-reg or nearly new, of course there won’t be many QM’s in the market for a while yet.
