Like a bad tribute band , as is the case with most 'tributes' . A replica is fine - see many Carrera RS/RSR , most GT40s , Stratos, Westfield 11 and even some (a minority )of 'Cobras' . But this is more pastiche than replica and I would rather see the real thing , which is stunningly gorgeous in the flesh , remained a rarity and not devalued by this sort of thing . Any real AC owners get fed up of being told somebody's mate is building a Cobra for £2.50 on an old Granada V6 or whatever ?

As for the 250SWB not being good to drive ask Jackie Oliver....

I'd base it on an M Roadster (Z3M), paint it rosso red and not put any badges on it.

I'm close to getting bored with mine now, so rather than changing the car, I may just change the body smile.

Want to show your working on that one?

I dont see or recall values of genuine Cobras, 355s, 360s, 430s, GT40s, F40s, Diablos, Countachs being impacted by the availability of replicas.

That does look good.

Stick some BMW roundels on it, front and rear and maybe stick an M Power engine in there (5.0 V8 or E46 lump) and mod the interior so make it a real retro sort of design; sort of like the Z8 but without the engineering might of a manufacturer behind it.

There is another perspective. Few Conra owners have owned them since before the copies so have bought them knowing the world is covered with terrible to great copies. If they felt it was that big an issue they would most likely have bought a different car?

Yes! Want, don't care what the car underneath is as long it runs fine and go up a hill! Life would be more fun if everyone drove caricature cars. Whose going to cut you up in one of these?

To clarify I meant not so much the cash devaluation (if any ) but the adverse effect on the car's status ? image? by being aped by really not very good at all replicas. The fake snake example is the obvious one - there are some cracking replicas out there but some bloody horrors too and if I owned a real 289 I would tire of being asked what kit I used. I would go so far as to say that 'Cobra ' is now just a generic term for the host of kits, so far as the man in the street is concerned . A good replica using the right bits is fine but I cannot take a 'Cobra ' seriously if it's fitted anything less than a Ford V8. And as for 'F355s 'which are weaselly old MR2s - God help us. It's a personal thing - if somebody wants to drive round in a poor pastiche of a Countach then fine , but don't lets pretend it's anything other than what it really is.

Miles better than most other kits imo

not precise the same angle, but comes close, if the z3 kit uses better fitting wheels (better ET)
and its completely build/ready, I think it looks good (for the money/idea)

remember its not painted yet and has no grill in the front and not the right wheels, not saying the real car
as by example picture below looks great, but the wheels on the kit are to wide out, a good fit just inside the arches would look way better, but they are still making it better I think.

just great when it looks a bit like those>

also the rear view is good from such car.

Roof around the B pillar is a mess - the Ferrari is like liquid metal, this looks like a fat person's sweatpants...

Sort out that and the track (so the wheels are IN the arches) and it's not bad - put BMW badges on it rather than Ferrari and it's even interesting ;0

Better than a Z3 ever looked - but then that's not hard

I've seen worse... and confess that I quite like it as a shell on a Z3.

Of course all the naysayers do realize that this 'replica' easily has the potential to be a better car than the real thing ? Faster, quicker, better handling, brakes, and much, much safer in the real 21st century world. Driving to say Slough ?

would be nicer with the front end styled a bit more like this

but not like a Z8
I was thinking of that shape BMW, but can't say I knew they had chrome gill vents on the side. I don't like them on Z3s but can now see the retro, heritage nod with fitting similar chrome to the flanks of a Z3.

I quite like this but not the Ferrari mimickry stuff. I'd not want the slidey windows. One of the criticisms of the Bertini was retaining the original Z3 door handles that gave the game away. The door handles have been changed on this Z3 kit.

You are quite right - but progress means that is a common phenomenon. A1275S Cooper would outrun virtually everything in the mid 60s and I doubt if it would see which way an Ecoboost Fiesta went . Golf GTD - same performance as a 2+2 E Type, better grip and and half the fuel consumption.

I see one or two real 250SWBs a year racing at Silverstone and they are just stunningly gorgeous and make a noise to die for .
