hi everyone, just realised there isnt anything in the sticky section about iva, there is an sva manual, but that is now obviously out of date

the best link i can find for the manual (m1 which i think is what most people are building) is here

http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/repository/M...

i hope this is of help to someone

the changes i can see so far after a quick read through

reverse gear
reveres light
horn
head rests
brakes, cant be adjustable back and forth( may have to be welded, not sure)
brakes, may have to be split left and right rather than back and front, ill look more into this - i thnk you can ignore this, its just each system(half the split total system) has to work on a wheel on each side, so it can still be front and back seperate
much more expensive

has anyone else found anything else different?

im determined my car is going to pass the IVA, we bought the car before the sva was introduced, so im determined to get it through the iva

mods, can you consider this for a sticky, as its what were all building to now

I heard the front light placement is easier (I've not yet checked though).
Exposed external exhausts were ruled out, but the newest draft (4 IRRC) was supposed to have had this item removed - I'm awaiting any confirmation (from PHers).
Tougher emissions regs few new engined cars.

teathered fuel cap (either removed with ignition key or cant be removed from the car)
position of VIN number on chasis (has to be on the right side)
external exhaust is ok (it had to be or bye bye 90% of the kit car market)
new regs on front mudgards and wheel coverage (30 deg forward coverage and 50 deg rear coverage)
numberplate positions
tell tail markings on dashboard lights, indicators etc (evertything has to be marked)
earthing the fuel tank
puncture risks on fuel tank
Markings on break cylinder to say whats in it

thats all i can remeber at the moment

Damn - I hate markings on the dash, the chassis has been stamped on the passenger side of a RHD car and and not sure about how puncture resistance the fuel tank is!

the puncture resistance is more to do with a rear impact and if there is anything that can puncture the tank if this happened. The westfield spare wheel holder failed on these grounds but my car without the spare wheel holder should be ok

the rules keep changing and as far as i know there is still no finalised manual, there is a draft copy kicking around, or consult your manafacturer they have the best idea of whats going on.

you can always make temporary dash markings and remove them after the IVA test

same with anything else that is not required by the MOT

All glass (windows) must be 'E' marked. BS markings are not allowed on there own anymore! Even the rear fog and reverse light must be 'E' marked.

Where are you getting this from?

The manual lists the lights and the E markings numbers but at the beginning of the section there is a statement that lamps not marked must be of a similar brightness. Section 20 note 4.

This is the same as it was in SVA.

A steering lock is sufficient.

Are there new head restraint rules on the seats? That could make it fun for use getting the passenger side sorted.

I think your meant to have head rests for both fornt seats (not sure about rear, if you have them)
I think its ok to have the head rest seperate and attached to a roll bar.

The head rest can be separate but in this case the seat must be fixed i.e. not on runners.

The IVA manual has now been updated to version 5, with lots of subtle changes to keep everyone on there toes ! The changes are (in the main) covered by the "Release Notes" section, which you will find under "Version Control and Release Notes", at the front of the manual. If you follow the attached link, all should be explained:

http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/Transport_Theme_fil...

Please ignore the fact that the document address says "Version 4", the document itself is version 5 !

Follow the attached link:

http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail...

This takes you to a Businesslink web page. Look in the right hand column and find the download for IVA Manual for M1 vehicles.

This, I hope, will always take you to the latest version of the manual. (Sonics link is direct to one version of the doc so has not updated)

Enjoy

Note. one item discussed recently was the requirement to stamp the VIN with 7mm high characters which has now been changed to 'at least 3.5mm characters'.
Also interior sharp edges has changed from R2.5mm to blunted for anything below a horizontal line 150mm above where your bum is on the seat.
