Weather looks set fair for Sunday, 80 degrees and just a small chance of a shower. I live in Indy and it's a beautiful day today as it was yesterday and Saturday. 73 and low humidity.

Just about to do our annual draft for the race winner. I'm picking seventh in the first round so Palou and Veekay will be gone, hopefully Dixon, TK or Rossi will be available.

Nasty crash involving Legge and Wilson. Katherine looked ok but Stefan was taken away in an ambulance. He did give thumbs up to the crowd, albeit from a prone position. Fingers crossed for him.

I've see worse crashes where the driver's walked away, looked innocuous (for Indy that is)

Yeah? OK Doctor. Tell Stefan. Fractured 12th thoracic vertebrae, out of race.

After the CV-8 or Interceptor ? That personable racer from Frome was Jenson - but God knows why...

I wonder if they'll get anyone in to replace Stefan? Can they even replace him after qualifying?

Jack? Stefan surely.

Yes they can replace him provided they have a driver who is cleared to run at Indy. That means it can't be a rookie and needs to be someone who has run on an oval in the last year so take a look at the Iowa and Gateway entry lists and see who is available. Indycar and the track could also opt to run a special 'refresher' session to clear the replacement driver to race which would open up a few more possibilities. Either way the car will start 33rd due to the driver change. There will be 33 cars on grid come Sunday that is all but guaranteed. If Stefans team withdraw - unlikely unless someone gives them a pile of cash to compensate for the prize money they will be missing out - then Rahal will be in.

He can be very grateful that was a ‘safer’ barrier, and not a wall he hit at 200mph. Thanks to the HANS device as well, which likely saved him from a more serious neck injury.

It’s the sudden stop that causes injuries, rather than the more dramatic-looking accidents with pieces flying off the car dissipating the energy slowly.

I wasn't underestimating the impact, just that on 1st showing it was the sort of crash that usually doesn't cause injury. Further viewing show that he hit almost perpendicular to the barrier, as someone else has said, it's not the crash that hurts, it's the sudden stop.

Compared to Herta's crash from last year, it was a lot less scary.

At the time of posting the update on Stefan's condition hadn't been released, so wind your neck in.

Roberto Guerrero told me that he would rather hit the wall at 220 MPH at the IMS in a modern race car than at 30 MPH in a production car.

Rahal in to replace Wilson which is weird to say the least.

Indeed, Rahal bumped by one team mate gets a seat in a faster car as a result of a crash involving another team mate.

Wilson's backup car has the chassis/tub Oriel Servia drove to 4th in 2012.

I’ll let Roberto go first, but the race car crash is going to be better for the driver most of the time, than the road car crash.

Anyone attempting the road car crash on purpose will be dressed like they’re in a race car, and the car will look a lot more like a race car too, with a cage and harnesses.

Still doesn’t say “motorsport has never been safer” on the back of the tickets though, even though it’s true. smile

I disagree, I thought that was pretty good, Jewel is a very good music artist.

Jewel is lovely. A mad over-the-top anthem rendition is part of the American tradition for sporting events.

10 minutes to go!
