Garrett, can you remind me what NCAP is, I am not totally sure?

NCAP, or EuroNCAP, as it's called is the "European New Car Assessment Programme".
Basically, NCAP assess the safety of new cars, ranging from all sizes and types. For example, the latest Renault Megane has a 5-star rating, the best you can get, meaning that (theoretically) it is the safest car to be in if you have a crash. BUT, the stars are also awarded for the amount of damage a car does if it knocks down a pedestrian at, say, 20mph. In this case a Megane would get 5 stars (since it has soft zones at the front which do less damage to a pedestrian) whereas something like a BMW X5 would only get 1 or 2 stars, as if a pedestrian were to be hit by one of those it's probably 'lights out' time. So, overall the X5 would have a lower NCAP rating, but the X5 would probably be the safer car to have a crash in.
The moral is that if you're walking home one night drunk as a monkey, DON'T walk out in front of an X5, but feel free to play chicken with a Megane!!!

Thanks, I fail to see why car makers should think about pedestrians overmuch, given that cars are on the road, pedestrians SHOULD be on the pavement, around 90% of pedestrian involved incidents are pedetrian at fault. Let Darwin rule! Make cars safer for the occupants, not the pedestrians.

Partly, I used to have a car with wash/wipe on the headlamps, now I cannot get one because of the pedestrian safety issue, at best you can have recessed washers. So I now drive around half-blind in these weather conditions, making it much more likely I will hit a pedestrian. Surely it is better to have the car safer to use to avoid potential accidents in the first place?

That's an nteresting twist.....but on the other hand, if your headlights were cleaner, you would obviously drive faster and hit a pedestrian harder.

There's always two ways of looking at something

But if your headlamps are dirty, don't pedestrians have less chance of seeing you...

I think this proves that MM should not interfere with F1 let alone road cars! based on that theory can anyone nomiate who could take over from MM if he were to leave the FIA? Jackie Stewart? he has a great relationship with wee Bernie!

What gets me with this is that, based on the information I had from the muttering press, Stoddy went to OZ knowing that the FIA had said that they would let the cars race if Ferrari, who I understood were the only team at that time which had not agreed to let him race, would not let his team do so.

Once they were there Red Bull and Midland decided to change their tune and so did the FIA.

When Stoddy went to court all he was trying to do was to ensure that someone kept to their word.

As for the speed with which the parts were made available I understood that these were mainly ready but were untested and required some tuning.

Add to this that the FIA have chosen to spit the dummy and, to my opinion, try nothing less than to strong-arm the judiciary of an entire country into following its line. It would have been far better of them to say that should Stoddy seek to rely upon the court’s ruling then they would be forced to appeal the judgement.

By implication the FIA is saying that if it should decide that all steering wheels should have a 6” spike upon them to persuade drivers not to crash this should be accepted without question…

Whached an interesting documentory on the History Channel about Max Moseley's parents, it seems that after the outbreak of the Second World War, whilst all Sir Oswald's followers were sentenced to hard labour for the duration of the war, he and his wife were able to be imprisoned together, and lived out the war on Fortnum & Mason's hampers, delivered daily to thier cells !

Maybe there is a moral to this tail, Max will be fine,( for sure a good St.Bernard will look after him ) beware his followers !

Ravon.

PS The race was a joke, miles rather be whaching V8 Supercars, the Aussies have got it right, they don't need the FIA.
