2019 Rallying Thread (WRC, ERC and all other)!
Discussion
I did raise a concern about the date clash on another forum when they were launched, especially as the Woodpecker rally (big forest event about 40 miles up the road from the Three Shires) was the weekend before. More worried about marshals and rescue crews than competitors really
Three Shires wasn't quite full, I think they ran with about 107 from 120 possible entries. I guess the allure of the classic road rally routes was a big draw for the welsh event. I'm sure quite few crews would have done both given the chance (don't know if any one did?) which would be an even better situation for the organisers if the clash can be avoided
Dates must be hard work, there may have been the factor of the event base and accomodation offer at the Aberystwyth Uni campus where only very specific dates may have been on offer.
The best thing for me is the huge numbers of posts on Social Media (most notable for the Clacton event) from people who knew nothing of rallying before it went through their locale but has a really good time and can't wait for it to happen again

I attended both the closed road rallies at the weekend, Three Shires on Saturday and Rali Bae Ceredigion on Sunday. Spectating / Servicing and talking to as many people as I could.
Both were excellent - the Three Shires was more of a clubmans event and had a nice relaxed atmosphere. The Rali Bae was pretty much an international-level event in all but name, with high levels of professionalism all round.
I’m glad that there is room for both, especially the 3 Shires, as the existing clubman-level tarmac rallies become harder and harder to find venues for.
On the way home I took a drive over Nant Y Moch stage - that is a world-class stage, at least as good as Abbey St Bathens (my favourite stage outside of Mull) and they had world-class corporate hospitality up there.
I must say I’m a little surprised that there aren’t more non-rally closed road events, from memory there is Watergate Bay hillclimb and Coventry MoFest. Any others? And I don’t think anyone has launched a closed/road motorbike event yet have they?
Mull in 5 weeks! The granddaddy of closed road rallies.

There was one launched that was supposed to use the Epynt roads although I'm not sure why that fell under the new legislation, the roads appeared to be the same as those used for rallying for years. Anyway, it was canned and I'm not aware of any others. velocemitch said:
The event in Saltburn had motor cycles. Though being untimed it probably didn’t need to use the new act.
it would of done if they were going faster than the speed limits.I too would like to see some other events on the roads, not just rallies. Long circuit hill climbs would be good, or time trials ( but these are limited to 10 miles in MUK regs). I very much like the idea of a 20 mile time trial where you could use any car from single seater to rally car, with classes for each. My current dream venue would be the road from Kilmahog back round to Callander, followed by the road from Beckwithshaw, to Leathley , Farnley, then ending up in Fewston. Finally a hillclimb near the White horse at Uffington along the b4507
I'll let you find them on the map.
Any one got any other good time trial roads?

There's a (car) speed event planned for the Isle of Wight early next season, and it'll be closed road.Dynion Araf Uchaf said:

I think the tome trial concept is quite good, endless roads that could be used.
There is a Hillclimb organised for Holmfirth next spring, they were trying to get Holme Moss, but are having to settle for one of the climbs out of Upperthong instead. Limited to Classics and Vintage though.
I did a little research and gathered up all the threads:
Rallying:
Legend Fires North West Stages
Corbeau Seats Rally
Three Shires Stages
Rali Bae Ceredigion
Beatson's Mull Rally
Jim Clark Rally
A bit of the Riponian
A bit of the WRGB
Speed:
Coventry MotoFest
Watergate Bay
Sandown Speed Trials
Wolfstones Hillclimb
Holme Moss Hillclimb
Race:
Hull City Greenpower

I thought Neuville was unlucky, being caught out by the dust. Really don't know why the organisers changed it from 4 down to 3 minute gaps.
That Citroen is a fickle car. A complete dog in Germany, but going well here. It seems to have the smallest of sweet spots where it works.
Everybody constantly quotes 'safety is a must, not a choice', then for some reason they cut the running order gaps; Neuville came around a corner into a fog of dust.....What can you do? Ogier started needing a bit of luck, a voila - Tanak's car let him down (again!!) and Neuville had his unfortunate time consuming off. It's still seems a long shot, but Toyota can't really afford another car issue for Tanak.

Pay more attention to the pace notes? Visibility did look particularly terrible on that corner though.
