I can't speak for other circuits, but I know a little about my local one.

On any track day you'll get a team of at least nine fully trained marshals, a fully equipped medical centre with two paramedics for car events and four for bikes.

The numbers were crunched very recently, and it was found that 0.3% of bike trackday participants had to be transferred to the NHS for further care or assistance, 0% of car participants.

The guy delivering your takeaway tonight is more likely to be a potential strain on the NHS.
And your point is?

your figures mean nothing, how many track days over how long a period, what were that 0.3% injuries, how where they calculated? I could go on.

At this time when many hospitals are fast running out of ICU beds, I feel it is irresponsible for track days etc to carry on.

I guess my point was just that these activities are actually very safe when compared to a great many other very mundane things.

That said, I don't disagree with you that in the current climate it's not really appropriate to be running such events, safe or otherwise.

Just been speaking to MIL and she was saying that on her local radio they are complaining that racing is still going ahead at Cadwell.

Pointed out that it isn't racing just a track day, but for most people a bike or car going around a race track is racing.

So here we have another problem with running track days, is that many will think racing is carrying on regardless.

Lots of media stories now about people flocking to the coast, Lake District, Snowdonia, national parks etc etc. and how overwhelmed some places are, with no social distancing.
National trust has closed places in response to the “crowding” as has Derbyshire council etc.
Banning doing social things outdoors may not be far away?

You're right Andy, otherwise the NHS will be overwhelmed. We are just 2 weeks behind Italy and on exactly the same trajectory, and exactly the same number of deaths as they had at this stage.

It's irresponsible of Cadwell, and now they have the resulting bad publicity. Boris Johnson has asked people not to go out unnecessarily. Going to a track day is just that. What part of UNNECESSARILY are people and Cadwell Park/MSVR having a problem understanding?

And who is the main track day customer? Middle aged men. And after old people, which is the 2nd highest risk category in Corona cases?

Just like Wetherspoon moaning about his pubs having to close. All about bottom line on the balance sheet and selfishness. Same with Palmer.

If Wetherspoon was the nurse in tears on the TV the other night when the supermarket was bare after a long shift, or Palmer was still a doctor working in front line, then they would be saying and doing very different things.

Now extended till end of June, hardly surprising, I am now tempted to see if I can find an empty circuit with a gate left open to get some secret testing in!

From MSA

In light of recent developments in the COVID-19 crisis, and following the address to the nation by the Prime Minister on the evening of 23rd March, Motorsport UK has today extended its suspension of all organising permits and Certificates of Exemption for motorsport events until at least 30th June.
