2021 Rallying Thread (WRC, ERC and national rally)

Organising a rally is a phenomenal amount of work, unpaid for most. I wonder if organisers (I've been part of it) have ever illustrated the actual costs to competitors should everyone involved be paid.
There's a handful of brilliant competitors who do give back time when not competing BUT the majority of them will have no idea, moan about the entry costs, do the event and bugger off home. I've found that very demoralising over the years.

Totally agree, the pandemic has made me rethink my involvement with motorsport. Whilst at present I will continue to be involved, I will certainly be doing less. There's a handful of brilliant competitors who do give back time when not competing BUT the majority of them will have no idea, moan about the entry costs, do the event and bugger off home. In part it is due to the lack of understanding by so many competitors of what is actually involved in running events, the training that goes on etc.

Rovanperä out as well, the first few stages have taken a toll!

Ogier did very well considering he was running so early. Evans said he was surprised at how loose the surface was, and seemed to have less confidence in my view, but they both ran the same tyre setup. However Evans still in with a podium chance.
Greensmith seems to have got on the pace to be not far off the leaders in the last 2 events.
Lovely stages. This used to be a round of the European Championship back in the 80s when Lancia 037s and the occasional S4 could be entered.

That Fiesta is fine, Ogier proved that, when you take a pay driver and a guy who is trying to impress every time, and seem to crash first stage every time this is what you deserve, better to pick one car, push for a top driver and do it that way. They are struggling money wise and it shows.
Mads Osberg’s not a happy chappie...I caught this interview this morning live and had to post it on YouTube. :

Yes, there has been multiple occasions when they've been out on exercises, the same time as rallies.......
However, I think that Covid-19 has made it easier to not allow spectators. And, one gets the feeling, that Wales is just about happy to allow sporting events to take place - but not spectators to come and watch. I really do wonder whether I'll get to any forest events this year.....
Red Bull Hardline in Dyfi is going ahead - but, no spectators allowed - will be streamed live.

Yes unlucky rock for Evans. Neuville had a lucky overshoot and still made fastest time. Interesting to hear Adamo saying that the strengthening allowances on the cars for this event are far less than used to be permitted, visually no outside protection like the animal bars and outside cages which went years ago, but less allowed on critical areas like the suspension and steering.
