Poisson's Motoring Mishaps
Discussion
Saw a scary scary man and The Hunger Games. Meanwhile my dad was being called as the tuning folks couldn't start my car After using the ignition rather than petrol cap key, it was tuned. Vacuum Advance unit is apparently doing nothing properly (£30 for a replacement) but it is fully set up. Prepare for a laugh....

Not too bad at all! Only down 7hp on the book number, and it's making peak HP at around the right RPM. Get the vacuum advance sorted and you'll be really close to the factory numbers.
I wasn't sure on the 'correct' numbers and image, cheers for that. The vacuum advance will be sorted. 48bhp is the number I'm aiming for but right now I want to drive it (probably Friday) after the tune and not having to worry about rev drop and stalling at lights. 2 sMoKiN bArReLs said:

Under the bonnet yours has a modern accoutrement to the left as you look at it.
If you mean the flasher motor, the original is kaput and the new one has no bracket so the tierap is there to hold until a new one with bracket is attachedI stopped my fuel pump leaking with chewing gum

Have you tried just a little bit of choke? The first bit increases the idle with no mixture enrichment (iirc). On the subject of choke and battery saving. In the past I used to pull the choke out as I turned the key to switch off at night, then push the choke back in. In the morning, pull the choke out again and it started on half a turn.

Decided to test out the change in the car, so randomly drove to Eyam. Up hills and up to 70mph on the 70 sections, officer, all felt better and the car felt less laboured and drank much less fuel. I also didn't catch the plague but on one corner the car launched my phone out of the glove box and on to the floor
So I've prepped the car for it's trip to Ginetta. Prep is a strong word for going up to Stannington to pay my respects and then putting the car through it's paces on the hills nearby. All well, apart from the vacuum advance issue, although I think someone adds petrol to it as it seems to barely touch it...

Sooooo to bring us up to date....
The heap made it to Ginetta and back without a hitch, and was also the scruffiest car there
Also it is finally booked in so it can have a new advance/retard unit installed. Had to take it for a drive for a fair comparison with after it is fixed. Or some excuse like that....

Car was negative earth'd on Saturday, and the new advance retard unit fitted and tubed in. Got it back to the unit and a spare Sparkrite electronic ignition was fitted. Took it for a test drive and the A/R tube dropped on to the exhaust manifold and melted. It lasted under half a day FFS
Passenger mirror fitted and taken for a proper spin with the new ignition. Seems a fair bit peppier, but timing has also been done when it last got the A/R tube.

I know I'm the only one here but it slightly amused me. This thread is just for a record log and to keep me entertained

N'awww the PHers do love me
I am a 19 year old sproggy in a moggy
Timing wise, the dude who did it is our pet mechanic and did it for fun. Leedar in Rotherham gets my seal of approval for any vehicle work, and I use SJM in Dronfield for Moggy specific work (another thumbs up). I'm yet to do points and timing for myself.
The electronic ignition system uses original points and can be used in mechanical mode if the electrics die. No photos as my phone has potatoed.
