Porsche 997 AWD V8 Turbo
Discussion
Doing something similar with a different rear engine car myself at the moment. No turbo just a 502 BHP LS3 in a Renault Alpine GTA. Transaxle was test fitted last week and should be running in about a month. Similar scenario, V8 is virtually identical in every dimension as the PRV. Used a strengthened UN1 gearbox and adaptor (this transaxle has been used plenty of times in V8 kit cars) Car has been completely mechanically restored with 300mm 4 pots all round and Spax suspension developed by JL Engineering, uprated cooling. Bare stats should be 502 BHP, weight somewhere between 1200 and 1300kg so will be around 400 bhp per ton :0)

Yes, yes and some more yes.I've just stripped the PRV out of my DeLorean. It's been sat for, well, who knows - 2+ years with me and a decade or more prior (in the US). It's currently in bits in my garage and I'm struggling with "restore" against "LS1/2/3". If I went with genuine parts, both come out at roughly "stupid money". It's not an easy sell either way - the PRV would be easier to sell on for originality, but in every other conceivable way, the LS makes more sense.
Please start your own thread so I can drool over your progress
Dear Readers
Sorry I have not posted recently as I have been out of action recovering from yet another stroke. Hoping it will not be to long before I am back on my feet again and driving the DT8. Lots has happened since my last posting to the car not least that we removed the turbo until such time that II have saved enough pocket money to do a proper job. The car currently has a shade under 500bhp which is more than enough to scary most passengers. and the car is shortly due to be featured in a magazine details to follow.

Love it, how is it to drive compared to a normal 911 ?
J4CKO its stunning to drive a Carrera AWD on steroids with a soulful sound track. As a TVR passenger friend once said this cars got soul . The engine is lighter than the 3.6 that came out so to drive it feels no different. I will be very interested to see what the feature on the car says because it feels no different to me. The power delivery is awesome with instant low down performance and it pulls so well. The biggest thing is it feels like a factory built car and it drives so well that any one getting behind the wheel can't help but have a great big smile on there face at the performance and the awesome sound. Mine is quiet loud but that's my choice Dyno Torque do build quieter exhausts.

Drive me mad when people moan that its not right, I love the variety and interest of a different engine, suspect there will be more as various 911s break.

J4CKO Added more detail to your post. Totally agree Porsche owners can take it very personally that we have done this to a car. However things are changing and the interest level is getting very positive. I firmly believe the car does the talking its stunning to drive a Carrera AWD on steroids with a soulful sound track. Wishing you the best for a quick recovery!
At some point I would love to have a quick vid of how the car sounds. Great project!!
RDMcG I will do a new sound clip once I am back on my feet but you can go to FB DT8 R I will accept your friend request and hear it on road test enjoy. At some point I would love to have a quick vid of how the car sounds. Great project!!
Excellent conversion. It must be great seeing people's WTF expressions when they hear a V8 but see a Porche.
I'm gonna send you a FB request also, as I'd love to hear it.
As for the Renault, it needs it, as I remember when they came out, making a turbo look silly. I was in a ratty looking mk1 Capri. Slightly tuned
Glad to hear you're getting better.
