Without wanting to piss on your chips, without any form of warranty, the car has zero value. It’s usual for any warranty fitted parts to come with a two year warranty if fitted by a dealer. I would be looking for more, unless you paid a price reflecting mileage in the first place ?
Eh? I’ve run my E46 M3 without warranty for 10yrs and only had to replace consumables and rear coil springs’cos they are made of cheese. Everything else has been tickety boo.

Talk about pissing on the OP’s chips. He’s been immensely patient and has a mega car (great colour) back in full working order with a brand new lump under the bonnet. I wish him many more miles of trouble free motoring in it.

At least they washed it for you too OP! hehe
With 222k miles ? Get real.

Why don't you go back to page 1 and catch up rather than drink beer and talk bks?

Of course I paid next to nothing for it, it’s got 222k miles....

BMW are over £30k into it though, that’s their problem.

Their mistake for putting a warranty on it. Last time I had warranty work done, any parts supplied had a 2 year warranty. You’ve had an engine assembled by numpties....

Teetotal, clearly not compos mentis! The low entry price is the premise for this thread... how have you missed it?

it's a car for racking up miles and with a rebuilt engine, we hope that it'll do many more with the OP.

Well done op, good result in the end. I had a cam belt tensioner fail on my Panda 100hp causing catastrophic engine failure ie pistons said hi to the valves. It was recovered to my local supplying Fiat garage, A week later I was invited down to see the car in bits, Fiat uk had agreed to replace the engine with a factory recon unit, I was encouraged to pay for a new clutch as everything was out of the car. Around £200 for the clutch pack the manager informed me as id contributed to the cost I was given a two year unlimited warranty on the engine, plus they extended my already extended warranty by another 6 months. My buttons on the steering wheel become sticky, I informed the service manager and when I picked the car up next time he had replaced the complete steering wheel including airbag and buttons pack plus as a bonus he replaced the worn gearnob as well. Then on to BMW they want a diagnostic fee to sort/look at a sticky steering wheel button, I really enjoy my 2 Bmws but there is nothing for free from the dealers. Not even coffee any more.

I’m failing to see your issue.

I’ve had three positions in all this....

1) Working car and engine with 222k on it - Good
2) Non working car with an engine with 222k on it - Bad
3) Working car with an engine with 52 miles on it - Good

If anything I’m slightly net positive on this. The rest of the car has done 222 thousand miles, well bar the front dampers, they are 116 thousand miles young. I can be pretty safe in my assumption something else will break soon.

You would like to think that if anything went wrong that could be attributed to poor installation they would not expect the OP to pay out.

I suppose any warranty would quickly expire with the miles OP is putting on it anyway, glad to see the car back and hope to see plenty of (trouble free) updates going forward thumbup

Sorry that is bks.

I would give him £10,000 for it today.

Would arguably give him more than that after he has put a couple of thousand miles on it.

That's some proper ste you're talking. As a high miler the biggest concern for these cars is that the N57 either snaps its timing chain or spins a bottom end bearing. A brand new N57 is a massive selling point. I don't think Waitey is even concerned about that at the moment, as arguably the most ideal situation happened to it. The engine failed in warranty, and now the most expensive bit to replace has been replaced.

There's plenty of people that would buy this, and a new engine makes it more desirable.

I think he only paid about 13 or 14 for it. I remember seeing the ad. Was it in the high mileage thread?

I've never had a car with a warranty, sounds like i've been getting ripped off by not getting these unwarranted cars for free!

Glad you've got it back OP, it's a lovely looking thing and ready to go again!

Apologies if I've missed it, but did they ever get to the bottom of the previous engine rattle/failure OP?

The cars far from worthless, as there is more than one person on this thread alone that would pay a fair price for it (ie. 5 figures).

No I dont think so. Took it all to bits and measured everything, found nothing then thought lets just get a new engine.

Do you post inflamatory comments without actually reading any of the prior posts in the thread?. What the O/P paid for the car has already been gone over in this & other threads. As has the reason why there's no parts warranty on the new engine ffs!

what a st show!

what I am also surprised by is how crap new BMWs are.

every loaner you had seemed to pack up in some way, this is a brand new car we're talking about.

has the rangie been more reliable than the bmws then? they're known to be terrible.

car is awesome, I remember seeing it for sale and was tempted but no need for a diesel.
