Following on from the conspiracy thread....
Does anyone believe in ghosts?
I know Ill get slated for this but I used to work in an old pub, parts of the building dated back to the 15th century. Always found it abit spooky when I was there on my own late on an evening.
One night when the pub was closed I was sat at the bar with 2 friends the landlord and landlady, out the corner of my eye I thought I saw someone by the pool table, thinking we’d locked the doors with someone still in I had a look...nobody there.
About an hour later the landlord went flying backwards off the bar stool and smashed his head on the wall behind, was just as if someone had just shoved him in the chest. He was massively shook up and convinced someone had just pushed him off the chair. You could see the fear in his eyes.
We watched it back on the CCTV and you could clearly see his chest moving in as if he had been pushed. His feet were dangling free at the side of the chair so there was no way he could of jumped so far back in the way he did. He refused to ever watch it back.
The next day when we spoke he said he didn’t believe in any of that sort of that stuff but had always thought odd things had being happening leading upto it. Nothing has happened in the years since, he thinks it was some spirit or something and that was it’s last goodbye.
I never believed anything like that and still choose not too, although that can’t be explained in my eyes.
Anyone got any stories???

Not a ghost as such but when I was about 12 (1987) I was on a train back home from a school trip to London. We'd changed from the London train to the smaller local train taking us to our station and it was made up of 2 or 3 carriages, the front of which had windows facing the rear-facing windows of the one in front. Me & my mate were sat at the front of one of the back carriages, looking into the carriage ahead.
Sat in the carriage in front, facing backwards and looking directly at us, were two male passengers. The one on the left was unremarkable but the man on the right was the spitting image of my dad. Same beard, hair, typical style of clothes he would have worn etc. I remember it vividly and was a little weirded out. I even said to my mate 'I think that's my dad'. He looked at me for a while, would look away, then raise his head and look again. I can't remember whether he got off at a stop before us or what. It would only have been a 30 minute journey anyway.
Thing is he'd been dead for 4 years at that point.
I'm not saying I believe in ghosts and I used to be hugely cynical about it but now days I'm more open minded to the idea that there's stuff we can't explain.

Used to live in Buckingham, fairly new houses. I was round at a neighbours one evening, they were smoking in the kitchen, I was standing by the door in to the living room.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a young girl walk down the stairs into the living room. Thought nothing of it as they had a young daughter, looked further round the corner and noboby was there
Neighbours then said about lights being switched on while they were at work, neighbours hearing someone running up and down the stairs.
Can't explain it, no chance of lights swinging across room due to were house was etc. They'd never said anything so had no preconception of a ghost

I love a good ghost story and am open minded but with no particular experience of any bar the odd spooky feeling etc.
There's been a few threads on ghosts and the supernatural here which i generally enjoy reading, but they do tend to get spoiled by those who come in to shout about being rational and how everyone who believes is an idiot.

I'm one in the 'does not exist' category.
Humans are just crap observers. And considering the number of cameras everywhere in todays society, there is still no verifiable evidence.
I have worked at a few sites that are supposed to be haunted, but nothing.
I think the desire for this to be real is so strong that 'I want to believe' becomes, 'It must be, because I believe it.'
There is so much amazing real stuff in the world, why invent new intangibles?

This. All of this, every word. Quite spooky in itself! There was a really good thread on here a while back about supernatural experiences etc (I was just a lurker at the time). Sadly it became an unreadable slanging match after a few pages.
When this type of topic has been raised before people have gone crazy, big, big arguements.
I have never seen a ghost but two people that I know have personal experience.
One owned a Victorian house in central Knutsford. One room in the house was always cold even with the central heating radiator being so hot that the owner could hardly touch it. She owned a dog which refused to go into the room. She did some research and the house was owned by Knutsford jail who used the house for visitors in the 1870s, she thought that one spirit still occupied the house.
My sister in law and her husband went to a pub in Yorkshire. She went upstairs for a pee and as she was washing her hands a girl of about 8 said hello and they started talking. The girl was dressed in a brown floor length dress and was wearing a bonnet. My SiL asked her where her father was and she said that he was the landlord. My SiL described the girl and straight away he said 'You have seen Mary'. Mary was the landlords daughter from 250 years ago and my SiL said she wasn't ghostlike at all, as real as any child.

When I was younger I heard about a little girl who got sucked into her TV and lots of other crazy things that happened in the house like furniture moving around by itself and a ghost walking down the stairs.
The called some little old lady to banish the spirits and bring back the girl from the other side.
Then the whole house just curled up into a ball and vanished into thin air.
Apparently the house was built on a ancient Indian burial ground.

tNot seen anything as far as I can remember but I did have an experience a few years ago. I was in bed at a house I shared with my brother. He was out at his girlfriends place. It was morning, not sure what time, I was awake but just lying in bed lazing about. Suddenly the door to the bedroom was flung violently open. The carpet was a bit crap there and used to get rucked up under the door so I only ever opened the door a few inches and used to go in sideways. This morning it was suddenly opened all the way as if someone had barged it and the carpet was all lifted up. I jumped out of bed of course to see who the hell had just booted the door open. Empty house. All doors and windows locked.
That house did have lights turning on and off by themselves and whatnot but I never worried too much about those. This happening did st me up though I confess and I didn’t sleep too well that night.

Never believed in ghosts as such, but had a strange experience in my first house; bought as a project it was semi derelict and had been owned by the local church (nothing as fancy as a vicarage just a Victorian semi) for one of the church luminaries to live in.
It had a large, open front garden. The doorbell used to ring of it's own accord, no pattern to it and sometimes in the middle of the night and once when I was talking to a neighbour in the doorway. I asked the neighbour about it and he was as confused as I was. It got so annoying that I disconnected the bell. Despite this it continued! This went on for about 2 or 3 months until I removed the bell and binned it and nothing since.
Must admit it did freak me out a bit.

When I was 10 I thought I saw my dad on a ski slope in Austria. I was so convinced I actually started to head towards him.Sat in the carriage in front, facing backwards and looking directly at us, were two male passengers. My dad was alive and well at the time, back in the UK. What I'd seen was a guy who looked just like my dad. That's all.

I also remember the previous thread on here about ghosts, and how it was spoiled by vituperative posts by non believers, and how they would refuse to give any credence at all to the testimony of others.
