A quick update on this; the top mount was replaced and had fixed the issue, and the brake problem has never returned with all discs and pads now wearing evenly. The car has been going on strong.
My wife and I are selling our daily cars to buy a shared car; it makes no sense owning three cars at the moment. My Dad's going to be buying this off me, and my wife's friend is buying hers. It's worked out quite well.
All that needs to be done before he purchases this is an alignment, to fix a slow tyre leak (just needs the rims cleaned), a service and an MOT. After that, I'm sure it'll go on to do another 178,000 miles.
