Can anyone think of an example of a car that has an identical (or very very similar!) engine to its in-range bigger brother but where the latter is factory tuned to offer more power?

I'm trying to find some examples of bargains that simply need a remap/tune to step them up a level and to ID vehicles that are stupidly more expensive than their cheaper twins that have different software.

Most obvious one I can think of is the Alfa Giulia 2.0 turbo petrol engines.

200 and 280 bhp versions are 100% mechanically identical.

Vauxhall Antara 2.2 diesel was another - 160 and 180 bhp maps on the same mechanicals.

BMW E82 125i 218 bhp

BMW E87 130i 261 bhp

OK one is a coupe and the other a hatch but the coupe is only a remap away biggrin

Weren't a bunch of Minis different only by the throttle mapping?

The MG ZT / Rover 75 CDTi is another example - launched with 115HP, but later a 135HP model was available.
Identical cars bar ECU tune.

And in the letter of the question, although not the spirit, I think the BMW E90 LCI 325d had an identical engine to the 330d, just a different tune. But also a weaker autobox, smaller brakes etc.

Saab 9-5 2.3 high pressure turbo engines, 220bhp B235L in the 2.3T (note the capital T) is a detuned B235R (230/250/260bhp depending on age) from the Aero.
