Knackered old Porsche with loads of natural light - Boxster!

I to am enjoying your Boxster article I hope you keep going with it. I bought a year 2000 2.7 just over a year ago, I am really liking it, it had only done 27.7K miles as it had always been a 2nd or 3rd car. It has now managed to get to 29.5k as again it’s a third car, and it flew throw its M.O.T. in Nov.
I thought it was a twin row bearing car but going by the engine number I think it might be single row.
Car was invoiced in July 2000 and is engine number 65I 14776 Type M96.22. On checking underneath it does not have any sign of oil in the usual place, so will have to keep my eye on that or spend the money for peace of mind.
Can I ask what tyre pressures you have settled on to suit your driving feel ?.

Slightly off topic (although I do have a Boxster 987!), how do you find the Kwik Lift? Did you go for the 2.5 or 3.5 Ton version?
Looking to get one of these and comparing with the Quick Jack which only seems available as DC in the UK whilst the Kwik Lift can be either AC or DC..

Yes I got very lucky with that, although I'm yet to see a 2.5 that has catastrophically failed so was rater relying on that. There is so much internet scare mongering about M96 engines that as soon as one has an issue people jump straight to "properly broken" before checking the basics. Garage space looks really good as well, always wanted to try a Porsche but can't get away from MX5's!
Definitely take the step to Porsches, the bits do cost more than parts for an MX5 but on the flip side they rust a lot less!

If it was me I would leave well alone but then I do have somewhat of a high risk/reward approach to these things I can recommend the EPS IMS solution which is what's in my 3.7 in the 996. This only went in there as the original dual row was NLA and seemed by far the best engineered aftermarket solution.I thought it was a twin row bearing car but going by the engine number I think it might be single row.

My 986 is standard pressures but 2psi down on the front to dial out a little of the understeer.

They're brilliant, I went for the 2.5T version as it's more than sufficent for what I lift on them and has a lower entry height. When not in use they hang on the garage wall so take up no space and the hyds pack sits on the bottom shelf of some racking so never really has to move to connect the lines etc. Slightly off topic (although I do have a Boxster 987!), how do you find the Kwik Lift? The dry breaks aren't that dry but that's standard for most hyds dry breaks other than that they are solid, well made, lift a Porsche with absolute ease to a level that makes nearly all common jobs easy. Pair them with a set of Porsche lift blocks that engage with the lifting points properly and they clear everything delicate under the car with ease. They take a bit of common sense to operate with regards making sure the locks are engaged properly etc. but no more so than the basic checks one should do when lifting anything on a lift.
I went for the Kwik Lift version because they were available when I wanted them. It seems they're all made in the same factory so it just depends on what colours/brand you like the best

Think I will go with the 2.5 ton version too, especially as you mention, they have the lower entry height and 2.5T is sufficient to lift my other current cars.

Awesome! I’ve recently picked up a 98’ 2.5 also with broken centre console lid and vague gear shift!
Can I ask which version of the quick shift you went for? There seems to be a good few options although assuming they’ve all come out of the same factory. They seem almost too cheap which made me wary!

I am pretty certain they all come from the same factory as I've had a few brands over the years all of which have the same colour annodising and finish. They are pretty well machined for 50 quid and not particularily challenging to fit (although there is no way to save the standard bushes if that bothers you as they need breaking to remove). I think it makes a big different to the feel of the car, a little overly stiff initialy but they soon lose that stiction as they wear in and the reduction in shift distance and increase in weight is far more preferable to me than the rather long throw that's there as standard. In short if it's a blue annodised one it's likely pukka
The Boxster continues to be fantastic fair weather transport and it's had a treat today with a mornings stay at Center Gravity for a road use focused setup:
Really cannot fault those numbers on a load of old road car bits, as always CG did a mega job of sorting out a few small bits on it during the setup and generally taking the care, attention and time required to do an excellent job. I can't recommend them highly enough for any setup needs one may have!
No major dramas to report bar it needs a couple of rear tuning forks at some point in the near future so that's added to next service list.
