So bleak, yet so beautiful; come on, you and Mrs Bobbers, must be harbouring thoughts of a move North.

Scotch pie, not sure if you can get them this far North, a Scottish version of piggy pie, with lamp. Will travel for these.

I'm not going to lie daqinggregg, it's been discussed a few times, the biggest obstacle is Mrs Bobbers reluctance to live rurally, she's a town girl, likes a supermarket and a takeaway nearby, I'd move to Pitlochry tomorrow, talking of which we're off there today.

Went through Keith after Huntley on the way to Elgin, saw signs for Strathisla, not had a bottle for ages.
We have equipment at Gordonstoun school Elgin and I’ve had to visit before , that’s a good long way up….

Beautiful place tho
Quite a trek for work, having said that Bikers Nemesis is currently working in Nairn, I believe he's on a week's on weeks off shift pattern so obviously stays up here.

Holiday 8 years ago, touring round from Dumfries to Pitlochry, via Glasgow, Fort William, Skye, Inverness, Cairngorms, Ballater etc.

We actualy stayed at Logierait, near Pitlochry, this was our view of the silvery Tay from the woods behind our guest house.
Yes, it was raining, but it was April.

I too would move to the Scottish countryside in a shot, but the present Mrs QBee doesn't fancy living somewhere that is cold and wet for 11.5 months of the year.

The only place on your list we haven't done is Skye!

Well, we broke through the 1000mile mark today, 1008.7 miles upon our return to the cottage this afternoon, after our visit to Pitlochry and House of Bruar on the way back.

Pitlochry is still our favourite place in Scotland, and it was a pleasure to see it again.

Peanut in the car park at the House of Bruar.

And this is the view the other way.

Oh look, it's the weirdos again!!!

On the way back to Carr Bridge we got stuck in traffic on the A9 at some road works, still, it's not a bad view.

I was trying to remember the very first time I came up, I think I was around 8, my step dad had family just outside Edinburgh and we came up to visit them, I don't really remember it much.

We lived in Cheshire, stayed in a cottage in Lochinver, first visit, would be 1970 (I was aged 10) father did it in one hit, Ford Corsair 2000.

Previously, all holidays had been in the Yorkshire Dales, father said “No point going abroad, until you’ve seen all of the UK.” We still had a lot to see.

We had no more holidays in the Yorkshire Dales, because we moved there to live, all subsequent holidays, were in Lochinver.

From the age of 12, once we got to Lochiver, I could do all the driving (Cortina 2000GT) highlight of the year for me.

We used to holiday in October, back then, no sane individual, went to the North of Scotland at that time of year, yet, it was probably one of the most beautiful times to visit.

Over riding memories, food was crap, pubs even more crap (don’t ask), lax policing; place breathtakingly beautiful, people incredibly friendly.

Aaannnnddd so we continue with today's installment of "where are those two weirdos today?"

A round trip of 167 miles through some absolutely stunning scenery, 4 bridges, and the last bit of the NC500 saw us go to Golspie to the absolutely stunning Dunrobin castle.
The Cromarty bridge is amazing to drive over!!

Your first view of the castle is impressive, however the view from the gardens is breathtaking.

And of course the weirdos.

The castle and grounds are amazing to visit, they had the fire lit in the entrance hall which was nice, the cafe serves excellent food too.

We left Golspie and followed the A9 through to Inverness where we stopped for coffee and a cake, to be honest we've visited before and are still unimpressed with it!!!

We encountered the A9's version of rush hour, all about 40 cars of it!!!

1174.9 miles travelled so far, still have 90 miles of range left from the 3rd fill up!!!

Today is our last full day in Scotland, it is also Mrs Bobbers birthday, her choice was shopping and lunch in Aviemore, so I have bought her a new Harris Tweed bag, matching purse and flask!!!
Peanut in front of The Cairngorm hotel where we had a very nice lunch!!

I really wanted to buy this picture but Mrs Bobbers was having none of it!!! smile

We did however acquire a furry highland coo called Dougal.

Tomorrow is an early-ish start for us and Peanut as we journey 192 miles south to another of our favourite places in Scotland, Moffat, home of the worlds narrowest hotel!!!
This will be followed by further southward journeying to Durham.

Total mileage so far 1191.2 miles.

Edited to correct Monday to Moffat!!! rolleyes

Loving your mileages, given with the tenths of a mile a well.
A man needs an anorak to visit Scotland, at any time of the year. whistle
Might be something to do with the weather.

View from Uig on the Isle of Skye for you, to save on having to drive an extra 314.4 miles to see it.

Apparently you need to time it right - at peak tourist times the island is one big traffic jam

Yes, I have heard that, sad really, it's like the NC500, that used to be a little known gem, now apparently at certain times it's almost like being on the M25!!!

Possibly a bit out of the way, there are some lovely driving/scenic roads around the Scottish borders, Newcastleton (Copshaw kitchen) for lunch, also Elliot’s butchers for pies, to Kielder water is worth a visit. Hawick to Otterburn is a nice drive.

Many bemoan, automotive development, saying little has moved on, codswallop, a Ford Fiesta of today, is like a luxury mid sized saloon 20 years ago, perfect for 99% of journeys.

Coo picture made me laugh, not surprised Mrs Bobbers put her foot down.

Oh yay!!!
Oh yay!!!
OOOHHHHH YYAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!

Hear ye, hear ye!!!!

We left Carrbridge around 0830 in the am, after packing all my st Peanuts boot with our purchases, the suitcases were relegated to the back seat!!
We stopped in Pitlochry on the way through for a toilet break.

We then carried on to Moffat for our lunch time stop, those if you who may have been to Moffat in the past, there's a well known outlet type place as you come into Moffat which is actually a former weaving mill, it used to be a regular stop for the coach tours, but looks like it is sadly declining.
We carried on into Moffat itself and had lunch at the Star hotel, which boasts being the world's narrowest hotel!!!
Of course I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a picture of Peanut in front of it!! smile

We left Moffat and continued on to Durham, leaving Scotland was a sad affair, but we arrived in Durham around 1615 in the afternoon after a journey of 259 miles, total so far is 1490.4 miles.
This fine looking establishment will be our base for the next 3 night's!!!

Not much of an update I'm afraid, Peanut had a day off today, we walked into Durham and visited the castle and cathedral, well worth a visit if you're up this way
Obligatory weirdo pic, some context as to why Mrs Bobbers looks like she's gurning, apparently she was trying to blow her hair off her face!!!
