My Lancia Delta Integrale Project.
Discussion
Hello,
Thought I would start a thread to show my current Lancia Delta Integrale Evolution track day/race car project.
The project has been in the pipeline for about 8 months now. In this time we have been slowly collecting the parts needed to complete the build plus we have been scratching our chins thinking about what the car specs will be and how we will go about building it.
This project came to life when a freind of mine who builds high power Integrale engines offered me a 1988 Integrale 8V rally shell complete with MSA logbook. I was up at his place discussing plans to up the power of my track day Evo2 and saw the shell sat there in the workshop on stands. At this point I was thinking of putting a roll cage in my Evo2 and to turn it into a fully fledged track car. My Evo2 at that point already had a 360bhp motor in it plus Alcon brakes and trick suspension but I wasn't sure that I wanted to put such a nice Evo2 on the track for good.
After discussing various options it was decided that my Evo2 would be put back to a standard car and sold on to a buyer we knew in Spain. My forged engine, Alcon brakes, RSR suspension etc would be saved to use on the 8V Rally shell. We negotiated a price for the rally shell and an estimated build time was agreed.
The rally shell was checked over to make sure it was square and Derek who is going to be building the car hung the doors and wings on it to see if everything lined up ok. To our surprise we had good panel gaps and the shell was good to use.
Here are some pics of the shell..

Hello,
As you can see the shell has been heavily strenghened and modified which will make the car super strong and hopefully will make a great base to start building A nice strong flex free track car.
The registration number of the car is E66 OAD and I think it rallied in Sealink colours along with this Integrale from 1988 onwards. Here is a pic of it's brother in action. If anyone has any pictures or history of the car then please PM me.

With the rally shell having an MSA logbook it would have been nice to build the car back up to it's original spec as an 8v and waited for it to become eligible for historic rallying but I plan to make the car into an Evo spec car with some big power!

Will be getting the bodyshell into the paintshop in a week or two so will post some more pics then.
The car will be Lancia white with painted Martini stripes with Sportline decals. Same as this Evo in the link below.

Hi,
Here are some new bits Derek has put on the car so the bodyshell is rolling on it's wheels for it's delivery to the paintshop on Friday.
All the Evo suspension parts have been blasted and powder coated ready for assembly. Hubs have had new SKF bearings fitted and have been powder coated. We have decided not to use the standard diff carrier and tranverse arms, instead we have used the new Walkers tubular diff carrier and their Group A spec transverse arms.
The Rally car was RHD when it was in competition but we have opted to change it back to LHD because I prefer Integrales to be LHD and also we can use the Walkers Evo quick rack which should improve things on track.
Front suspension arms will have spherical bearing mounts and the car will be poly bushed where needed. Rear anti roll bar will be Group A spec with rose joints.

Hello Imran,
The original shell is like a shoe box with no lid. It twists and flexes under load, then stress cracks appear in various places. The worst cracks on standard shells is where the chassis legs attach to the front bulkead and where the rear suspension turrets split from the shell. Cracks also appear in the corners above the front windscreen and loads of other places!
The rally shell I am using has been fully strengthened and seem welded, plus it has an excellent roll cage fitted. I did look into having my Evo2 shell brought up to the same spec but the fabricators wanted £10k plus VAT to do the job!

At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, have you spoken to John Whalley about the history of the car?

Hello,www.whalley-integrale.uk.com
Yes, spoken to John. He did a check on the chassis number and he thinks that the car left the Lancia factory as "sold for competition use" to a dealer in Germany. The cars that left the factory in this manner was not I think issued with a spares number on the VIN plate? Not sure if I followed John's explanation correctly or not?
Who did the bodyshell prep? I don't know weather it was done in Germany or done by Bob Brain who I think registered the car in the UK in July 1988. I have spoken to Bob's son about the car and he is looking through his dad's records for me.
I have sent £5.00 to the DVLA for the previous owners details so I will investiagte further soon.
Cheers,
David.

This should be an interesting thread,
A friend of mine has a Lagos blue Evo 2 and is building an Evo 1 track car to a similar looking standard to what you look like your aiming for. So far he's had the shell acid dipped and the required welding done.
Best of luck with the project.
