I have just swapped my E46 M3 for a facelift 996 Targa. Initial thoughts are that acceleration in low gears is not quite as good as the Beamer, but I have not done many miles so its hard to tell.

Anyway, would be grateful for information about what I can do to improve the performance of my 996 without spending a couple of grand upwards (otherwise I would have bought a turbo or GT3!). Be interested to hear of remapping and exhaust mods that can actually improve BHP.

Hmm,

I have gone the other way, from a 996 to an ///M Roadster for the summer.

I find the ///M slower than the 996, especially top end.

The porsche has so much more traction off the line, and is all round a much better car.

As for mods, the general consensus is yes, you can liberate a FEW more ponies, but it will be only a few, and will cost a fair whack (Few K plus for a few ponies)

Just learn to drive the car faster, as opposed to driving a faster car

Will keep you suitably amused for a long time.
