I have a G50 4 speed box fitted in my Ultima, I need to change the Transmission fluid shortly, and wondered what you guys would recommend using?

Thanks in advance for your help

G50 was not availiable as a 4 speed. It was availiable as a 5 speed on the 1987-1989 3.2 litre Carreras and 1989 930 style Turbo along with the 964 carrera 2. There was a G50 6 speed (993 Carrera 2 and 4) while the 6 speed G64 box was used on 993 TT and the 5 speed G64 used on the 964 Carrera 4.

The only high torque application 4 speed gearbox used was that used on the old 930 turbo, this box is sometimes mistakingley called the "915" box, where as it was really known as the "930 box"- It's a reinforced version of the 5 speed 915 box, with a die cast aluminium housing, it has provision for forced feed lubrication and a 240mm clutch diameter. You can recognise it by the "4 star differential"

There's some uncertainty over the 'box identity, but if it's a G50/5 then maybe consider using l.s.d. fluid from BMW. I had a noisy G50, and as I always use Porsche parts and generally follow factory recommendations I refilled with liquid pork. No joy. My tech suggested BMW limited slip diff fluid e.g. supplied for M-cars, which shut it up, and it's still quiet and performing well. There are risks with this sort of thing but if I sounded a bit anally retentive over the parts, I don't give much of a stuff for factory edicts that just don't work. Different story if the car had been under warranty though.
