Apparantly re-shelled with a non-RS shell many moons ago. Previously sold for £240k in 2021.
For comparison, this is the top end of the market - a truly original, virtually one-owner, full history, mega-low mls RS M472.https://trofeocars.com/1973-porsche-911-carrera-rs...
Without doubt a beautiful car ...
The problem with the auctioned car with the '73 car re-shell is that it doesn't give any idea of how much of the shell is now original ...
If odd panels ... the majority have had this or more and why say ? If a complete shell with vin number welded in, then that's something else.
I note that they showed the boot area but without showing the vin number near the scuttle ... and when I tried to enlarge any image to show this it was illegible. Careless ?
Also of course the colour change ... and from the vin number all other intimate details of the original car are easily found published in the Carrera book ...
RHD ... but a period-mod 2.4S ?
This would be a high price for a RHD 2.4S and a very low price for a RHD 2.7RS ??

It must mean the entire shell, otherwise I doubt they'd mention it.If odd panels ... the majority have had this or more and why say ? If a complete shell with vin number welded in, then that's something else.
You'd have to replace the entire panel with the VIN in, or it would be fairly obvious.
But maybe that panel was completely shot as well.
The authenticity of the ‘shell’ requires checking the ‘build’ number.
This is its ‘production’ number - not the same as the VIN, and is stamped into the rail that runs along the bottom of the dashboard, to the left of the ashtray aperture.Very difficult to find and may require putting a camera in there to photograph.
Verification of this number used to be required to get FIA papers.

I think the fact that it has very much been ‘used as intended’ may be a factor.
Begs the question of why they included the racing info then, if they'd left it out would anyone have known? It can work both ways..in some instances the racing pedigree can add substantial value although I suspect this won’t.

From a quick look they didn’t put the chassis number in the description. Anyone who is serious about buying one of these would want that to do the DD.

The shell number on the 964 is also on the rear parcel shelf ... and on my '73 2.4S it's also as shown in yellow crayon under the front fascia (top of the dashboard) ... But many racing cars have been re-shelled and for that matter, some re-shells have begotten duplicate cars ... thinking now of the American Rohl2 964 3.8RSR (which had a continuation Porsche Vin allocated to it) and Jack Tordoff's 2.7RS which was written off (in Portugal ?), requested a duplicate shell and was then re-built, as was the replacement shell ....). Plus I should imagine many others.

Band new (850 miles) 992.2 Carrera with auction hammer dropping in two hours, currently bid at £90k.
What does this esteemed PH gathering think it will get to and what might the reserve possibly be..?

In CC parlance 'provisionally sold' means that the final bid was within 10% of the reserve price. The seller doesn't have to accept the final bid, but the CC staff will do their utmost to push a deal through to secure their commission.
That is worth knowing !Edited by BAMoFo on Tuesday 19th November 20:28
After this are we now officially at the point where a new 911 - and with it being a 992.2 there are still only a few out there - loses at least 20% of its value when you drive it out of the showroom?
How quickly things can change in a year. And how potentially worrying for a model built on traditionally solid residuals...

I think this is the same for most cars ... if Porsche are simply better then happy days ?
There are plenty of reasons not to buy new cars with interest rates / depreciation / repair costs / worrying about main dealer servicing ... just a thought. Car manufacturers Worldwide are feeling the pinch ... except those from ChinA ... ???

I'm spending an unnatural amount of time drooling over this:

I suspect it will go for a lot more more than I'd be prepared to spend. Looks like a good un, unlike the black 996T that due to end today.

Very nice, even though every 'Turbo' gets tagged with being boring, they never are, especially a 996 with X50 and a manual box..https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2003-porsche-9...
