Very nice, even though every 'Turbo' gets tagged with being boring, they never are, especially a 996 with X50 and a manual box..

I hear that a lot (996 Turbos being boring) but every time I take mine out, I'm reminded how special they are. My daily is an old Audi TT, which isn't really dull either, and I sometimes think that I could happily just own the TT as it's a fun driver's car with a decent boot for a modicum of practicality but then on a sunny day like today, I jump in the 996 and... it's like summer's here again. I thought I was alive but then I drive the 996 through my local estate not barely hitting 20mph and I feel alive again.

I'm sure there are better cars that are more interesting for not much more money and I had planned on getting rid about 2 years ago but here we are. It'll probably be on my drive in summer unless I force myself to get rid of it; but if I'm lazy, I'll still have something that feels special to me.

At the back of my mind, I am starting to think that maybe I should buy the replacement car to sit next to the Turbo and that might force my hand!

Well I can only speak as I find. I test drove a 996 turbo back in the day and found it dynamically dull as ditchwater. The c2 was much more entertaining

Ah, maybe dynamically. It does feel like you have to really try hard to break the limits. That said, I have got all 4 wheels to spin when on a particularly wet day. It's just a feeling for me - sitting in it on my drive with the engine off feels special.

I just sold that. The first time an idiot bid the car up to £265k and then failed to pay for it so the second time at £238k was actually where the original bidders were the first time - so I suppose I didn’t get less if you know what I mean. The original chap was overseas on holiday and his credit card bounced for the CC fees and then he managed to pay those but had to raise finance for an auction car in 7 days - idiot. Hope his misses gave him a telling off for costing them £7.2k for nowt.

I can confirm that one of the most memorable feelings was shifting, flat-out, 4th to 5th down the Dottinger straight at the Nuburgring in a 996 turbo. It's definitely 'a thing'. They don;t quite have the steering feel of the 2WD cars though, but still handle very, very well.

Put another way, if just about any other manufacturer made them, people would rave about them.

Sorry Paul, can you explain how you see it ? RHD 2.7RS have been worth more than that for a very long time ... ?
