August SMMT figures are out, and it was an almost 42% drop compared to last year for Porsche...

actual figure is much worse.....if you take out all the cars opc's keep registering. only going to get worse for them in coming monthshttps://www.smmt.co.uk/vehicle-data/car-registrati...

What I took from reading that SSO report is that 911 is struggling. Taycan declining sales are potentially a disaster for Porsche and demand for an EV Cayman is uncertain.
What is clear is that Porsche, if you haven’t already realised this, is first and foremost sadly now an SUV dealer. No longer is it primarily a sports car brand. And this will undoubtedly increase will the intro of the Macan EV which it is betting the house on coming to the rescue.

I spoke to an owner of a lovely looking 992 T last week he bought it pre registered off the showroom floor.
I mentioned I considered the first 911T model when it came out and he had had a yellow one of those from new.
He said he got a good discount off the 992 T, he didn’t mention a figure, but said the cost to change was the price difference in list price of the two, so his discount was the equivalent of the depreciation he had since 2018.

I’ve been saying this for some time, Porsche are a SUV volume manufacturer. The Cayenne saved them all those years ago and the Macan allowed them to get a bigger chunk of the global SUV cake. The ev Taycan and new ev Macan could look to undo all that work. What is clear is that Porsche, if you haven’t already realised this, is first and foremost sadly now an SUV dealer. We had 3 new macans (still have one) and 1 new Cayenne, we have zero interest in buying the new electric Macan or Taycan.
I personally think the ice Macan is a great all round car, especially the gts. But we wouldn’t order another new one due to the platform bring so old. Shocked they haven’t developed the new ice Macan.
Be interesting to see how much further their share price will fall, over the last 6 months it’s taken a kicking.

We have a MY23 Macan GTS & MY23 Cayman 718 GT4. Full high spec on both as the GT4 no longer in production & Macan GTS days are numbered. Both are fabulous cars & looks like they could be forever cars as not interested in EV’s and as a private buyer with high costs & poor dependents makes no sense.

My favourite new porsche owned was actually my first back in 2009. A simple 2.9 manual 987 boxster, in my opinion this was when they still made an old porsche. When we changed the 997 2s to a 991.1 4s it was at that point I could tell VW engineering was coming into play. It was around then you could also see the changes in the opc and it became all about sakes volume at maximum profit.
We still have the Macan GTS, will be a difficult car to replace. It’s been flawless.
Things don't seem to be great out there.
Deliveries of Porsche cars fell more than 40% during the first nine months of this year from a year earlier, its owner Volkswagen said.
The decline was driven by a 19% fall in China, amid intense competition from local EV manufacturers, which is reflected globally by the Taycan suffering a 47% decline in sales.
Total VAG deliveries in the third quarter were down 7.1%.

That’s fairly close to a bare minimum if you want to enjoy it or ever want to sell it again.
You could also argue it ‘needs” the 18 way memory seats if your wife or someone else uses it regularly, that’s another £2500, and the led matrix lights, if you are going out regularly at night, at £2500.
So that would be £120k without really being frivolous, bringing it to level expected of a £100k plus car.
With an £85k trade bid in 6 months.

Pretty accurate, £115k easily, your £100k example would be a pretty miserable experience.

I don't think anywhere other than PH would someone describe driving/owning a £100K car a "miserable experience". Looking at the options you selected I would personally not choose £11K of them as they are all "personal" and not what I would consider must have. Wheels, paint, seats are the absolute minimum IMHO. Everything else is gravy.https://configurator.porsche.com/porsche-code/PSQ2...

If you spent £100k on a 992 base model with 'wheels, paint, and seats' and zero options, it would be a pretty miserable experience.
On ownership, you would not be feeling smug about how basic the spec was for your hard earned £100k, and as for trying to sell it, that will be even more miserable as nobody is interested in a poverty spec car, most of all the dealers....its hard enough to get them interested in a highly spec'd 992.
The dealers know that a basic spec 992 shall sit for months on their forecourt so will reflect that with a very low ball price, assuming they shall consider taking it.
I have skin in the game as I added £26k of extras on my 992 GTS cab order.

I specced up a cooking 911 in Guards for 110K. Standard 19/20 wheels because they look better, decent seats (14-ways), Bose and a few other bits and pieces. Most of the rest of the options, including Sport Chrono and sports exhaust (sounds council), make any material difference to the driving experience IMO. Those that might do (just a bit) are pricey but still can be lived without: a base 911 is still a jolly good drive.
Hang the depreciation: I wouldn't be selling it anytime soon.

I didn’t spec these on mine.
The result is the cheapest nastiest plastic strip you see and climb over every single time you or your passenger enters it. Had passengers comment on it a few times.
It will be added to my next one as “essential”.
You are quite at liberty to find that amusing!
That spec I built is pretty much representative as the bare minimum to get an OPC to touch it again. Whilst I don’t necessarily view a sunroof, or sports chrono, or possibly even the sports exhaust as essential, the dealer and next owner do.
Do I agree with it, no, but it is what it is and I don’t have the balls to gamble with circa £115k. If you want to spend £100k on your new 911 I wish you all the best, please post up some pictures when it arrives.

Maybe you would buy a base car with nothing on it, but the van I use for kart racing transport has a higher spec than a base Porsche. I specced what I would want from a 911, the minimum spec I've had on every 911 I've owned, and it was £115khttps://configurator.porsche.com/en-GB/model/9921B...

Nope but I'm the second owner. That said its specced pretty much as I would if I was buying it new. - Paint, Wheels, GTS Interior, LED Lights, BOSE so fairly basic compared to some. Having lived with it now for 6 months I wouldn't bother with BOSE as I tend to listen to the radio which doesn't really need anything other than standard. The engine/induction noise is ever present so I doubt there would be any benefit from specifying a high end sound system other than it going really loud.
IF i was buying a base 911 then this is how I would spec it: https://configurator.porsche.com/porsche-code/PSCH... specifying another £10-15k of options just to make it easier to sell seems nuts to me.
