Yes was a superb day, I was a little careful in the morning when it was damp but it cleared up nicely!

No too many of us 996’s and 7’s about these days. Good to see them on track, because they work so nicely.

I did a quick video too, but it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles like La Sources’.

Another great Porsche day at Oulton, great to see everyone again.

Loved the wet to dry transition in the morning then the track just got faster and faster as the day progressed. Very quiet last few hours and low spring sunshine peeking through the clouds - just perfect.

Cheeky afternoon lap in the 1984 911 3.2 - not as quick as all the newer stuff but still lots of fun!

I saw the car out a few times. Okay, it’s not got the 500+ ponies of the modern stuff, but it’s not exactly slow either. It’s great to see the mix of cars sharing the track nicely.

Aha!

I was talking to Chris from centre gravity about getting some tuition and he suggested speaking to yourself.

I didn’t get the chance however although I did have a wonderful couple of laps following you-I’ve seen your car before I think, a couple of years ago at Croft.

Hey mate yes its less than half that bhp but pretty well setup, did a 02:04 around oulton on Friday.

All the driving was very respectful this year, nice to not have flags and stoppages ruining the day.

Shame - I was running around all day, next year maybe?

The car is actually owned by one of my customers and there was three of us (Owner, Mike Wilds and myself) doing laps in it all day - it hardly ever stood still.

The previous owner may have been out at Croft with it but not this owner (yet!!)

Which car where you in?

Not anywhere near my neck of the woods but recently had my first ever run in a 991.2 rs on a track, before the run I had heart set on one as a road car with possibly occasional track day, tbh I think I’ve changed my mind and will have to reconsider what I want.

Strange but low down it was slower than I had imagined it to be, don’t get me wrong, up the rev range it was fantastic but on our roads you rarely get the chance to explore where it’s happiest.

Proper track toy but on the roads where I’d mainly be I think I’d get frustrated tbh.

Maybe a Turbo is your bet or Turbo S . Nice low down grunt and less noise . I race a turbo (993 GT2R Eco ) and that torque is nice . My road car is a .2 RS and agree to get the buzz , speed limits are an issue

Thanks for you input and again for not taking it the wrong way having a .2 rs, never owned a turbo, tbh I’ve never really done a track day either before the run in the rs but I really loved it, the instructor seemed impressed with my driving too, which I was surprised by as I didn’t think of myself that way, so possibly look into doing some more and that might possibly give me a new way of looking at the rs as a road car as well :-)

It was an epic car and not everything is about warp speed acceleration as soon as you touch the throttle.

Yes it was a great day as much for the car park as on-track.

Wet first thing and drying up is a far better direction than the alternative, my PS4S tyre choice played dividends in the morning and were going off after five laps in the afternoon ... but I had to leave early (again) ... this time for a significant Birthday arrangement.

The old faces and new is a lovely mix (too many conversations !) ... I shall be putting the Cup 2's on before a Snetterton track day towards the end of this month ... roll-on Summer smile

Didn't get chance to chat, but next time, interested to hear how you are liking the 991 RS Chris.

Either I'm growing into it or it is growing into me. There was a turning point at Cadwell Park last year where everything started coming together.

It's a great car on track ... a little stiff and noisy for road work and as others have written, the revs have to be worked to get the best out of it ... but I guess that is the point of the GT3 engine even if it does put a driver at risk on the road (which I rarely feel the need to do).

In the wet the car was good but the chassis really came into its own towards the end of the two dry sessions that I did before and after lunch when the tyres became a little too hot ... very benign ... and no need to do more.

On the geo meter in the wet I was seeing over 1.15 g laterally and 1.23g braking on the abs ... as it started to dry up this increased to around 1.25g laterally and stopped at 1.40g as the car started to slide. Max g shown under braking was around 1.35 ...

I have to say, the PS4S tyres are mighty impressive ... they have now done three trackdays and there is still over 6mm on them and wearing evenly despite running modest camber set-up by Suspension Secrets ... interestingly just before Cadwell Park last year !

Great event to shakedown the car following any off-season changes or preparation works, and also for starting to re-hone the driving skills.
Being so early in the year, there is always a slight risk with the weather conditions - however usually things turn out favourable.
This time we have a drying track and rising temperatures following overnight rain so the surface is clean and green with grip coming towards us.
1st time in the 718 GT4 RS at this circuit, so not representative pace and with a lot to relearn - new braking references due to quicker acceleration, different brake feel, managing PDK, and different chassis setup.
Car is 100% standard with just a track alignment with standard hardware. Dunlop Sport Race Maxx 2 N-rated as from the factory.
Net result - Already much faster than the 718 MR already at the same stage last year.

G readings - 1.47g Max Braking, 1.64g Max Lateral

Max-g on the car meter is probably quite a bit different than cornering load at the tyres. Lol.

It was a great day though. The weather improved dramatically over what was forecast - a first for Oulton!

As others have said great behaviour by all in terms of track manners and no stoppages...(apparently there was a red flag in the morning when wet but not once I ventured out later)

The 996 GT3 was super sweet at the circuit. So well balanced.
There were quite a few 996s going around well.

The track is a bit of a mini nurburgring
