This is the same old debate and it still comes down to the simple fact that the cars are SO different you really can't compare them.

It's like saying do you buy a 3 series BMW or a Caterham - both great cars (for different purposes) but which is better, well, that depends totally on what you want out of them.

Everyone knows I had a Griff which was the biggest pile of motoring shite ever to set tyre on my drive, but before everyone asks if it was a one off lemon my MD had a new one at the same time which was even worse. In fact, even if it hadn't broken down every time the small hand on the clock hit 3 I'd still have hated it, just insultingly bad build quality.

That said, a Boxster isn't really my cuppa either, far too soft and just too many around. As Domster isn't here I'll say it for him, bugger the convertable element - get a 964RS. Proper sports car and it won't lose a penny either

I have a 350i TVR and a 3.0SC 911. The 911 is great for rainy days, but when the sun comes out I always use the TVR. It is so much more fun to drive..

Anyway - I'm off!!!

I've got a Box ('03 S) and an Elise ('00 S1 111S), and a good friend of mine has a Chimp.

I think Don's Boxster v Chimp comparison is spot on.

But any car will have to be pretty special to beat the Elise on a smile per mile basis. It's an absolute hoot to drive, and still leaves me fizzing with excitement after 3 years and numerous track days. It's surprising how much you can get in the boot if you use plastic bags too!

PS - I bought the Box because I want to do a couple of Continental trips this year, and hell what's money for anyway!

Yep, similar situation, got a Chim and a company car. I would reccomend that you get a TVR if for weekend use only, boxster for every day. TVR is more special. You can use the TVR everyday, if you seek out a good one they can be very reliable. Had mine 18 months without problems. But even a reliable one will give you big fuel bills and servicing costs (only 6000 miles between services as well) if used everyday and depreciation falls with the high miles (seems ok for low miled TVRs). If you need a porker for everyday but need more umpf, then try the 993. Its as quick as a 4.0 litre TVR. Im now thinking about selling the TVR and company car and going this route......
