tuscan purchase advice...

Thanks. Problem looks like its going to be the width of the garage door aperture. I have a double garage that has 2 single doors rather than 1 large one. Friend with a C5 has been measuring up his car for me and it looks a really tight fit to get through the door. Need to do some more checks on things like height of the mirrors. In contrast, the Tuscan is a breeze to get in and out.
If a C5 is a no go, might have a think about another TVR or something else for that matter.

Some observations on early ownership:
- handling; if the car feels overly "twitchy" or tramlines badly, then may be worth the investment for geometry to be checked out. This could lead to you purchasing Nitrons - more expense
- idling revs; I had quite a few issues with mine initially with v low revs/almost stalling, which was fixed through work on the throttle bodies.
- seals on the car; I found early on that mine needed replacement as rain soon found its way into the boot and drivers door seals. Replacement was app £120.
- internal fans; I think on several cars (may be all?), the drivers direct fans only ever pump out cold air, and the windscreen ones hot or cold. A classic TVR quirk.
- water temp/oil pressure sensors; a classic issue which befalls many of us with Sp6 engines. Water temp issue can lead to fans not kicking in and overheating.
- frost indicator; winter is now hopfully leaving us, but enjoy the constant beep from the pod when days fluctuate between 2-3c. Whenever the temp bridges these two figures, the pod emits a little beep which can get very annoying!!

Just been watching your dad on a YES dvd (35th anniversary tour) and enjoyed it a lot. I was a big fan in the 70s and getting back into it again now. No idea about Tuscans (Chimaeras are very easy to own and drive!) but thought I would say hi.
You or your Pa planning any gigs in North Yorks by any chance?

hi ! nope, no plans at the moment. Going to Russia with him in November though! Just got back from a long tour with Mr Osbourne which was good. Start up again in January.
Was sad to the the tvr go in December, Id get another in a shot - Had a blast with my Chimaera.
Dad's touring with Jon Anderson soon and I'm sure he's up in York too.

for what its worth mate here`s my 2pence worth.had a chim on the x reg.great car/couple of niggles.then changed it for a tuscan 02 plate.hairy but devastatingly fast and fantastic although more minor problems than the chim.changed that for a brand new tuscan s(2005) and quite frankly it was aload of bo
ocks . spent more time in the shop than on the road.must have had oil/fuel leaks repaired 7 or 8 times and to cap it all off a goosed clutch after 4500 miles(not trak driven or even ragged).overall a big letdown.felt like it had been sellotaped together.maybe it was bad luck because the mk1 on reflection seemed every bit as quick and much better put together all round.sad to say it but this last car successfuly put me off the marque for life.

Yes, all Tuscans come in the same colours regardless of model. The rear light layout is different on the S and there's the front and rear spoilers. Also the S produces more power (I think it's about 20-30 bhp extra) and there's a few more engine tweaks.
Just have a browse through the Tuscan forum and you'll find all the info you need.
