Hmmm, glad I've stumbled across this thread. I don't tend to carry my driving licence with me when I drive, simply because I don't have a wallet or anything with me (husband has his wallet, so that's all we need).

Might start taking my driving licence with me now though, in case of stoppage by the police!

We keep a copy of our insurance certificates in our cars as well as the DVLA 'confirmation of tax' thing printed online (oh wouldn't it be simpler to just have a disc in the windscreen!)

Certainly something to think about.eek
Have you got a mobile phone with a camera?

Great, no need to carry around a load of documents then.

I've still got a paper licence, which is kept in my wallet, I produced it last year and got a bit of an odd look, especially as it's held together with sellotape.

Ah, now I see what you're getting at smile I kinda like my bits of paper though, don't go in for all this new-fangled 'digital' palaver.

Why do you need to keep a DVLA confirmation of tax. Why is it simpler to keep a disc in the windscreen, anyone who wants to check can do so pretty quickly.

To prove the car is taxed in case we are ever stopped. Yes, no doubt the police can find the information online or however-they-do-it, but what if it isn't showing correctly? Same for the insurance - I've heard that askmid (or whatever police equivalent is used) isn't always up-to-date so again, it's an extra proof just in case.

(I know, I probably worry too much, but better to be safe than sorry).

And call me old fashioned, but I rather liked the tax discs. smile

It's obviously your choice, but they're more likely to rely on their systems than a piece of paper anyway; that's part of why the discs were dispensed with.

Insurance can be taken out for a year just to get the certificate, then cancelled, so producing a bit of paper is fairly meaningless.
