Not sure how to post the items in a thread, but in the news today the Mini and Jaguar came bottom of a survey run by What Car for comfortableness. It was won by the Honda Civic.....

Now, I hate to disappoint all of those that hold creedance to such surveys, but unfortunately I think that they are full of cr@p. This is exactly the same with the Bottom Gear JD Power survey - they dont address the psychology....

As usual japanese cars win such surveys time and time again. In general they are all reliable, comfortable and very good cars. However, they are almost always purchased by individuals - in the case of jap cars (Civic esp.) - old people.... No offence meant to owners of the faster versions. In general they look for features and reliabilty over everything else. Usually things like Fords and Vauxhalls come last - because they tend to be bought by fleets and owners have little or no choice in the car selection.

Simple psychology says that you are more likely to like a car if you choose it. While if you have one thrown at you, you are likely to find faults.... Are Fords really unreliable? No, no worse than other manufacturers..... Are Jaguars really uncomfortable? No, not by the owners that I know.... Are Honda Civics the best thing on the road? No, they are not....

So, now that I have finished my rant - does anyone else have any similar stupid surveys that we can all laugh at....?

Cheers,

Paul

Paul, there should be a 'comment' button at the bottom of the story. Is it not there for you?

Paul, its not just the psycology they often limit the choices of cars. I would argue that there are a lot of more comfortanle car than the civic.

My m100 for example is the only car I have driven, where nature called before I got uncomfortable. My father who was in the passenger seat, didn't get out of the car at all for the whole journey and said it was like being in a comfy armchair.

These surveys are so often driven by the product. I was in one for a beer company and the only choices were their beer or stuff they knew was not as good. Surprise, surprise their beer won!

First time I've ever heard anyone suggest that ANY Jaguars are uncomfortable. What sort of survey was it? Arthritics Anonymous?

your right Paul, if those "judges" where all people who drive/own a japanse car (probably a honda) they are more likely to give the "good prizes" to these cars... there just like the ref's of the soccer matches

another silly survey - which irritated me cos it was on the BBC website, which I already object to as I pay for it from my license fee (and thats a whole other topic of ranting!) which was 'Whats the best computer game ever'. I didnt really care, but the survey asked 300 people, in Dixons - and they actually claimed it was relevant!!!! Pacman won, but Harry Potter acme 8th - and it hadnt even been released!

useless gits

I think the X Type is comparably uncomfortable and cheap in feel, doesn't feel like a Jaguar should. Some people would say its a cheap small Jaguar so thats OK, No, I remember the MK2 and MK10, the MK2 was smaller but just as special.
