Think I finally fixed my leaking heater pipes
Discussion
As this just got posed on FB I thought I'd updated it with some pics from my 99 so show how different the latter cars are.
I mentioned the hot air recirculation mod above, the later cars had that as standard, the inner wing is blocked off here, looking through a missing head light:
Then a bit closer up:
The kick panel has a vent in it to let air from the cabin get to the heater fan input (instead of cold air coming down the passenger inner wing on early cars:
With that kick panel removed you can just about see the hole for the air to get from the vent to the fan input:
More clearly seen here with the electrics removed:
The coolant feed pipes are very different on a later car too, they run across inside the engine bay:
I haven't pulled any more than that off the 99, but the feed pipes must come out somewhere in the inner wing above the hot air box.
This is the heater feed pipes going into the body on the early cars, below the battery:
They connect to the rubber pipes that run across behind the soundproofing at base of the footwell in the early cars. It was where those rubber pipes connected to the heater box that was leaking on the 97 built 4.5 I started this post about....
