Check for fluid in the driver's footwell - this could indicate master cylinder failure. Fluid on the ground under the car could indicate slave cylinder failure.

May well be the seals on the cylinder - COULD be cheapish to fix. Need to get it to an indie first !!

Top it up first.

Was this after a lot of driving?

Mine did exactly this during Le Mans. Since the car has cooled it hasn;t done it again and I have been checking the fluid everytime I use it.

Remove the rear engine cover and then the black dome near teh brake fluid resevoir, the clutch res is under here and you can top it up and with teh assitance of someone bleed it out using the little nipple on a braided pipe near the bulkhead.

20 mins tops to do and you could have a working car again.

As said check for fluid under the car and in the footwell.

Check the clutch fluid level. If it's not empty, it must be the inner seal on the master cylinder. Otherwise you need to look further to see where it's going.

as you are from Essex try Pound lane autos Pitsea,I have got 3 or 4 sets from there for these slave cyl`s.they have a huge assortment of seals, just take the cylinders with you then match em up

When mine went like that it was the fingers on the clutch itself that broke, but it made a horrible noise at the time and i could feel it through the peddle, hope yours is just a fluid problem given that nobody seems able to get hold of a clutch at the moment

SEMI GOOD NEWS!!

there was some fluid on the drive way from the bellhousing so seems to be the slave cylinder!
the resevoir was empty and some small particles of black rubber was on the cap.
filled resevoir up with fluid and bleed system all seems ok at the moe!? obviously not a permanent fix but at least i can move the car until i get my range rover project finished and space in the garage!
does anyone know if the box needs to be taken out completly?is it just as easy to take out with the engine?
any ideas? cheers guys!

Just wondering - what is the best way to remove the cover that lets you get to the clutch fluid resevoir? And where can you buy the sealant to fix it back up again?

used a stanley blade to carefully cut away sealer, then gently prised up with screwdriver,
i used tiger seal / stickaflex to seal back up which can be bought from most car accesory shops
