Ninja - my 550 has gone - (details on Sunday). Moreover, if you check some of the other posts on this site, you'll realise that I could do with a little increased "liquidity" at this time.
Put simply, financially, I was in way, way over my (and in all honesty my fathers') head. In a way it's a relief but here's something weird: its the greatest car I AM GOING TO HAVE OWNED for a while yet.....

Roadrunner - Like Ninja, I have yet to turn 25 too, and insurers would either think I was prank calling them or outright laugh at me.
I am actually unable to HIRE a bloody Ferrari..or pretty much any other sports car worth is name.

Say the words "Left Hand Drive" and that was the kiss of death....

I had a complex arrangement where I was covered only if I had MEGA excess + heavily restricted mileage and as an 'employee' of the dealer I had bought the car from (which is owned by close family) under their group insurance policy - WHICH DOESN'T MEAN IT WAS FREE

Lets just say I could afford to insure a 'few' C2's if they cost £1350 each to insure under what I was paying before.

Insurance? I recently needed a runaround to work from, and simply added my name to my fathers policy on his 97' Volvo S70 Turbo (its actually quite nice - did an indicated 131mph on the A40 the other day and felt pretty stable) - anyhow the premium went from £450 to over a £1k....
you get the picture.....? Can we never talk about this again....

Anyhow as for sunday I'm coming in a 1.9 litre Z3 AUTO - I know, I know, its the 'hairdressers' model but its cheaper to insure than the Volvo. (and its not mine)

Bertie- I see your 360 is due for delivery in 2003; must be damned difficult to be patient!

Mine was 2 years old when I bought it, and the lady who had it before me had covered 1300 miles. It's rosso corsa with nero leather, manual, red calipers, electric seats, burgundy carpets. This is pretty much the brief I gave the dealers when I told them I was looking for one, though ideally I would have liked red stitching and scuderia shields. I think they look better with crema leather but several people have warned me that the pale colours are very high maintenance; the interior has to be proof against two small, grubby children so pale colours are a no-no.

The car is going like a dream. No major issues so far.

Have fun with your choice

Oh - got a great story about insurance and money!

A friend of mine told me about a CHILD he met that had been given a 996 for his 17th birthday! His father was paying £18,000 a year for insurance!!!

The story gets worse. The Porsche was promptly written off and the teenager escaped with his life. It was subsequently replaced and on his 19th Birthday the kid got a yellow Diablo 6.0 - I'll let you work out the insurance for yourselves.

I kid you not.
Its totaly plausible. Wealthy American oil family playing in the UK supposedly....
I'm DEADLY serious.

manu,

Would it be rude to ask how much it costs to insure such an awesome car as the 550? My quote on a C2 is 'only' £1350 at age of 27. I think it gets a bit silly when premiums go above 2k. Who's being robbed the most by premiums?....

I am 27 and was paying £909 a year for my 996 C2, just changed it to the 456 and actually got a refund cheque for £223 as it was a lower risk supposedly (even though they are both group 20)

apparently a lot of people nick porsches and stick them in bushes, i guess also they probably do a few more miles per annum than the average ferrari

Yoohoooo! Reality calling! Three guys in their twenties swapping stories of how much it costs to insure their Ferrari's? HELLO. Nice problem to have, and one I would have loved grappling with. Couldn't afford to sniff one of these cars until I was 40, and before I got the 456 the fastest car I ever owned was a Ford Sierra. One point eight!

We all have to start somewhere. I've been through boring boxes: fiesta, jeep, gti etc..

Insurance premiums are one way of forcing you to drive a crap car when you're young. A 19 yr old I gave a passenger ride to at the weekend had a Subaru worth 8K and his insurance is 4K per year! Feck me!
