Yes,paid £16K fot it needing a paint (looked ok from 10yds though) clutch was slipping and
it overheated but apart from that it was a decent car with only 26,000miles on the clock and bought
it from the 2nd owner, the 1st Pantera i owned had the arches , wing and wider alloys all factory parts but
fitted some time later,It was a lhd Florida car, found out after i bought that it lived under a beach house on stilts
and the monocoque chassis had rusted from inside ,In bright orange with the fiares and wing it made a great garden
orament until i had it repaired . sold them both to buy a Countach so not hard to let them go. sorry seem to messed the reply up,
put it in the wrong place Tecky i am not

I'll just repeat this little phrase - you lucky bugger!
It looks fantastic in the advert photos, stunning car
More unlucky i still don't own it , if i did i could drive it with that smug look It looks fantastic in the advert photos, stunning car
on my face knowing how little i paid for it compared to what it is worth today,
Now that would be lucky.

Nah - you'd be thinking just how many other cars, especially yanks, you could buy just by selling it...

by selling both cars it helped to finance the Countach so didn't
give it a second thought, these days with rising prices if you buy the right car
you literally are getting paid for driving and enjoying them while covering your
maintenance costs .

Went to a car show last weekend at the Saleen Automotive headquarters in Southern California. A friend and fellow Pantera owner works for them and invited a number of Pantera owners to show up and represent the "breed." Saleen has a history of selling modified Ford Mustangs as well as their own race and sports cars like the S7. They also have a new car in the works which is quite beautiful. Anyway, six Panteras showed up including one owned since new from 1971 by the original owner in the rare lime green color. Below are some pictures from the show.

Love the vivid green, shouldn't really work on a classic but the Pantera still looks modern even today so god knows what the reaction was back when it was first released to the public, what a lucky guy having the foresight to keep his Pantera,
he must have a lot of happy memories that goes alone with owning that car for all that time ,as so do you having owned yours for so long.
With the clocks going back today and winter setting in i'm very jealous (in a nice way)of you guys in the sun .
Thanking for posting ,made me smile.

Well rat rod, I keep extending you an invitation to come out and enjoy our sunny almost never changing weather. We're envious of you guys that you actually get rain and don't have to ration water like we are forced to do. All the dead and brown lawns as a result of restrictions on use of sprinklers, in most communities down to one day per week.
I had met the owner of the lime green Pantera several times many years ago. His car is in pristine condition, all original, and he drives it all over the country. My next door neighbor also owns a grabber blue Pantera that he bought new in 1973. I'm like a newcomer at only 25 years of ownership.
The offer is always open, hop across the pond and you have use of the Pantera and can take it to any of the car shows that we attend every weekend. It's 5am here right now, having my coffee and getting ready to leave soon to a monthly show at our largest municipal park, Griffith Park. If you don't get there before 7am, there is simply no place to park.
Happy Halloween.

GTRene,
My next door neighbor has a blue Pantera in that shade. He attended today's car show with his VW pickup since it was VW marque day. But next Sunday is the enormous Best of France and Italy Car show right in our neighborhood. This is a very large, well attended show where there should be 15-25 Panteras, many dozens of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, and every other kind of car manufactured in France or Italy. Many hundreds of cars show up for this great show every year. Plenty of pictures coming next Sunday.

We also had a water shortage this summer, very rare here, some not all counties were on a hose pipe ban,
Luckily this didn't last to long ,
Being 71 next month with a 19 year old brain (not a good mix) i need to take you up on your kind offer
sooner than later while i can see around the corners of Mulholland Drive ,
Looking forward to your photo's of next Sundays show.
rat rod,
You're one year older as my next birthday early next year will be my 70th. I know what you mean about looking around corners, my peripheral vision has gotten so bad that I really don't like driving at night any longer. But you'll have plenty of sunshine to drive in if you make it over.

From memory there's not to much luggage space in a Pantera so best leave my zimmer frame at home
rat rod,
On the contrary, the Pantera has that big fiberglass drop in tray that sits on top of the big cavity over the transaxle. It's big enough to hold real suitcases (several in fact) and I have actually gone golfing with a friend and was able to put two standbags with all of the clubs in the tray. Additionally, the front trunk can get small soft pieces in it as well. My friend who has one calls it his "grocery getter" as it holds more than his 308 Ferrari and his Audi R8 combined.

tberg, I forgot how must room for bits & pieces there is in the Pantera, must admit to not taking much with me when going out for a
drive, mainly used them for a blast around the lanes ,kind of driving nowhere in particular ,just see where you end up at the end of the day.
Grey blustery and wet today, roads are wet, muddy with the leaves falling so not a good day to take the cars out.

The rear lights on the top two pictures are called Group IV lights, originally from the Group IV racing Panteras. The bottom two were the norms for Panteras. Since De Tomaso owned Maserati at the same time the Pantera was being produced, there were some parts including the tail lights that were shared.
Last Sunday's Best of France and Italy Car Show produced 11 Panteras. When I get a chance to download pictures this evening, I will add them to the thread. Just haven't had the time as we had a death in the family and had guests staying with us from out of town until yesterday.
