last one sold went to 434K in July https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1973-porsche-9... maybe the bidder lost out and didnt want to F around with all the nonsesnse stepping up bids ...if that the percieved genuine worth. Makes sense and it will have a very heavy reserve on it anyway. likely around the 400
Rhd different market from lhd, usually think 50-100k more, rhd 997 4.0RS is also worth 100-150k more than lhd. the last lhd car at silverstone auctions was bid to £350k only.. no sale.

also note the car is one of ICs inventory and being sold as ‘managed’ rather than trade/dealer.

It could simply be a case of the auction house or the seller bidding it up into the vicinity of the reserve. All auction houses do it and some like CarAndClassic explicitly tell you they do this in the detailed terms and conditions. If the reserve is say £450K there really is no point in a bidding war around 50K as it gets nobody anywhere.

For any car that does not reach its reserve the max bid tells you nothing about whether there is any demand for the car.
I guess it tells us the owner is too optimistic!

It struggled last time on the bidding be interesting to see when the reserve gets lifted.
Hmm , no AC and a few miles, lets see.
Lowest ones I have seen sold was the 80k car at ash goods and then the one a opc failed to sell and got auctioned for 80k something a year or two back. The ones for 125k to 135k need to be totally original and low mileage.

My personal Porsche favourite, if only I bought the one offered to me by my OPC with blue stickers and 7k miles back in 2010 for 55k 🤦🏼‍♂️

something definitely stinks about the 50-£400k bid.. also note the car is one of ICs inventory and being sold as ‘managed’ rather than trade/dealer. Trying to spoof a buyer into thinking he’s only paying £5k more than the next buyer..?
RHD in the 2.7 RS is worth a bit more....but LHD much bigger market and driving position is better (I am told by people that know theses cars well). So it’s easier to sell a LHD apparently Good RS’s currently selling for around £500k....but good one’s are rare and there’s plenty of dubious one’s around. Good one wouldn’t need to go to auction unless the pricing has been daft. You would have to be certifiable to buy an RS without a really detailed inspection which is not cheap.

Would have thought they’d pick up the books they dropped before photographing them hehe

If you really want it and you go big at this stage you put in a bid that says you won’t be messed with...so £500k plus in a case of the RS. I’ve seen that happen a couple of times at live auctions....Hesketh Formula One car at an RM Auction....first bid was in the middle of the estimate. Nobody else even bid !

All Sanjay has done is bid the market up and not got close to securing the car...

Why are there so many 205 GTi's on CC? Do you think people buy them expecting them to be the best hot hatch in the world (as that's whats always written about them) only to be disappointed and sell on? I have never driven one but as a 'petrol head' they are a car I always think I may take a punt on one day but the shear amount being sold is a little disconcerting?

People are seeing the prices on there and are tempted into selling?

There is 6500 205 GTi in the UK. They aren't rare and it shouldn't be a surprise to see good availability.

Blimey! I thought they were rarer than that....! Goes some way to explaining it. Cheers.

Surely that will go over £500k. My friend sold hers in Paris 570k euros a few years ago and that was a 2.7 rs touring, so I reckon a bit cheaper. The only advantage of her car was that it was only a 2 owners since new.

actually this is a touring that’s been half modified to have some lightweight bits.. so think it goes for less than a 2 owner original car.

Last auction car was at Silverstone auctions that was bid to £350k? only. Didn’t meet reserve. These aren’t cars you buy at auctions due to the number of fakes copies clones rebodied cars out there.

it has been on the market for over 1y+ so think the auction is a last resort.

Still, you won’t buy a £400k car on eBay.. so why do it on Cc - not sure.

Maybe eBay needs to do a better job. They need to revamp their eBay motors section to do inflated descriptions.

Indeed. Be amazed if bidding gets close to £500k. It’s a 20yr old restoration so done when these were £50k cars. Looking at the photo’s there’s road rash showing in the Carrera script ahead of the rear wheel arches which together with the description saying there’s some paintwork that needs attention probably means it needs paint

They've been massively punted on social media recently by the likes of Chris Harris, Andrew Frankel etc and now that normal bloke who paid £2k a few years back has a 700% profit sat in his garage so now everyone's offloading in perhaps the peak of the market.

Sanjay probably doesn’t exist. Buyer wants above 400k for it, this might be a way of CC just making it out it can get to a realistic level on their platform to pull in further business.

Wow in the right mind buys a car of this value without having it inspected and certified.

CC in my opinion needs to be more transparent, if not they will get a bad reputation for bidding cars up and trying to offload sub standard trade sale cars as private sales.

Someone on here bought one from SCOM. It ended up very badly. I believe SCOM now owes £8.5m frown

The more cars I see on CC the more I think they all go for a much higher price than the open market elsewhere, which is odd. Great if your a seller, but if your a buyer - what’s the advantage?
The audi r8 is a good example of that, yes relatively low mileage, but this might end up near £40k which in my mind is extremely expensive for a 2007 car?
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2007-audi-r8-v...

I see many examples of sales doing the same - odd.
