Very nice.

I appreciate you not wanting to bin it on the way home from collecting it, but when the conditions are right you will find that it doesn't come into it's own until you are past about 5K rpm. Once you've taken it to the redline you will have a stupid grin on your face for hours after and will want to do it again and again.
Can’t wait Trev!

As said by someone above - not much happens below 4k. It needs to be on the revs for instant insanity. You wait till you floor it all the way - hang on in there, do it in 2nd and 3rd - once you sail past 6k you'll have to restrain yourself from changing up. Let it run. It's bloody mental.

I was the same when I collected mine. Long wet drive and was a little undewhealmed with the pick-up mid revs, but at the same time I knew I was only playing with 1/2 to 2/3rd of the revs. Next day I got a chance to spank it and bloody hell! - it's just relentless. I literally laughed, semi hysterically. I had an instant, "ahhh - so that's what nearly 600Bhp feels like!"
God only knows what a charger or turbo’s do to it then! But yes you could feel that it wants to be wound up…bring on the dry….and the spring and summer months….I’ve had enough of winter already and its not started yet smile

Did you ever release the held back Hp and Torque with a tune or have you kept it factory?
Kept it stock. Have looked into but never got round to;
Throttle controller lots of praise for this
Titanium exhaust. Stock is around 40kgs and titanium around 10kg so you get back about 1/2 of the weight increase of the v8

I have this installed on mine except I had it done through Ricky at RE Performance.

It certainly makes a noticible difference. Money well spent imo.

Mamba black metallic (it is a black base with "red" met over the top - one of their limited editions / exclusive thingies)

So I’ve had a few weeks with the R8 now and the underwhelming feel in anything above 2nd gear seems to have been solved by changing the burnt out solenoid for the changeover on the flaps…only opening at 16% previously…..I even managed to get a dry day and its some serious acceleration now smile

I’ve decided to take it to Ricky in Jan at some point to carbon clean, plugs, air and fuel filters and a remap…not that it doesn’t feel fast enough as it is!

I also went to Reece at RTA as suggested above for his kit and the head unit and I’m going to swap over today. He’s been incredibly helpful so far, so once done I’ll upload some shots and narrative of the before and after…I know thats been done before, but I just think its nice to feedback positives for everyone and to keep it current.

One thing this car does for me is scratch the itch that many other cars can’t….not in a broad way at least. The performance, the aesthetics, the gated manual involvement, the comfort, the everyday usability, the noise of course….just….what a car!! The only thing I don’t like is the bloody judder on lock….I’d be interested to know if anyone has managed to improve this at all?

The lock judder is "standard" as far as I'm aware. Mine does it. Read about it. Think it's 4wd grab.

Only ever does it when leaving my garage.

Yes the front wheel judder on lock is perfectly normal and is reduced in the warmer weather. It is a result of the suspension geometry or Ackerman angle to be specific.

Glad you are enjoying the car.

The lock judder is part of the car's ownership - happened on my v8 too.

Nice to see people come back and complete the loop on a thread!

Judder seemed worse in the wet and when the car is cold, so pretty much perfect now. It's much worse when reversing too so don't attempt an uphill reverse park unless you hate your clutch. After a tip from a user on here (SamJB thumbup) I changed from PZeros (I think) to Michelin PS4S and it was heaps better - hardly noticeable when it warmed up.

Hi Phil,
Is your car back up for sale now. I think I can see it in the classifieds (capristo exhaust, round gear knob).

Tempted to buy it back Matti?

I've been considering one for a while for my fun car to upgrade from my Z4M which at the moment not much can compete bang for buck imho.

It was a genuinely awesome car. Only had one issue with it in the time I had it, and that was the well known expansion tank seam leak. Should have probably swapped the tank out like a service part.

For the money there is little that compares with these.

Unsorned the V10 (Gen 1, RTronic) this month. Just as amazing and mentally fast to me as 4 years ago when I bought her. Went out for a bit of a blast yesterday and OMG, its just still bat st crazy, and wonderfully nice to drive. What a car!

I’m struggling a bit with maintenence on mine. I’ve got an airbag light on and a few garages I’ve found want £300 just to remove the seat and have a look. Plus few other niggles which nobody seems to know what to do with.

I know it’s like blasphemy but I actually found REPerformance quite disorganised and disinterested and they gave me some bad information.

I’m left with Audi who have let me down so many times, expensive indies who seem overworked, and local garages who are a bit reluctant to touch them.

That raises an interesting point about R8s that I've never considered.

With Ferrari / Lamborghini / McLaren etc there is a decent network of specialists (McLaren is obviously fairly new but is growing).

There are Audi specialists (we own 2 Audi's) - but I would expect that Audi specialist doesn't necessarily equal R8 specialist. So how is the servicing on R8s - do you generally have to rely on Audi (who I'd also think have limited experience) or are there people who really do know these cars?
