I'm planning to go, for the first time, this year. I have two accommodation options - possibly the villa of a friend of a friend about 20 mins drive away, or I also have a couple of basic rooms reserved a brisk walk from the town centre.
As I understand it, you have to purchase tickets to see any racing on the Sunday? So with all the seated tickets sold, do you just purchase Entree Circuit tickets, then you can move around but don't have seats?
Also, what goes on across the weekend? Friday or Saturday? And do you need tickets for any of that?
Thanks.

Well, 'Onsite Events' (link as shown above) are currently showing no availability left - all sold out!
And if you go onto the Circuit's own official website, every single one of their stands ('tribunal') - which represent the only places where spectators are allowed to sit down - is shown as completely sold-out. Apart from 'Cathedral', which doesn't respond to a hovering mouse, even at all...
Likewise any local accommodation it seems; whilst the event website itself is pretty sparse too, giving little sense of whatever attractions might distinguish this year's event. Apart from a Pirelli Strato's on the poster, that is...
So if all that's left us for accessing this year's event are the general entry tickets; this being a status whereby you're condemned forever to circulate, seeing any action only through a screen of security barriers; does that mean that it's simply too late now for we tifosi even to think of attending the 2023 edition?
And that you need to have booked by January, if want to be there in 2024?

I've never bothered with booking a seat. Just turned up Sunday morning and bought a ticket.
I've always seen plenty of racing and cars.
Agreed, is it a brilliant event that can be done without the tour operator’s mark up. Plenty of accommodation near by. You don’t need to stay in Angouleme itself.I've always seen plenty of racing and cars.

So can we take that to mean you can get a good enough view of the festivities at Angouleme without access to a stand?I've always seen plenty of racing and cars.
I buy a paddock pass to see the cars that are going to compete plus there's one or two people I know that will be racing.
In past I've gone down on a Friday night and slept in my van and enjoyed all what goes on in the town through the whole weekend. Other times I've took the car and parked in the 'Champ de Mars' alongside very interesting cars and like minded people.
It's all very relaxed usually.
If you want to book a restaurant then you need to be on point and get one booked sharpish. Otherwise there's plenty of street cuisine.

Is this open parking for any classics on the Saturday and Sunday? How early is early? And you mentioned in an earlier post security issues - can you elaborate? I'm going for the first time, staying a short drive out of town, and just want somewhere safe and convenient to park up. Not fussed about displaying it as such.Unfortunately, I'm not now able to go this year. I have 2 rooms (both doubles with bunk overhead) booked at the Greet Hotel, about 20 mins walk from the town, which was all I could find to book at the time, but I'll be cancelling those later today so if anyone needs last-minute rooms then those should come up as available.

Does anyone have a good off the main road route for getting to Angouleme?
I am crossing to Caen. In the past I have driven down in one day. This time I have allowed 2 day to get there and I am looking for a rural route with interesting places to visit on the way.

It's definitely worth a visit. Also a stay at the Hotel de France at Sarthe if you can.

When driving through France and not in a hurry, I just put the destination into Google maps and then select Options, Avoid Highways, Avoid tolls. Usually puts you on some great D roads without having to plot the route.I am crossing to Caen. In the past I have driven down in one day. Last year when I asked about routes from Cherbourg to Le Mans someone provided a great suggestion about where to pull off for breakfast.
This time, having come from the night ferry, I will be leaving the Caen ring on the D675 in a WSW direction. Does anyone have a suggestion for a breakfast stop?
