Farina spec engine from an A60 would be my choice, slightly higher comp ratio & will be more economical & a bit more go. Lots of these floating around I'd have thought.
Just found a runner on ebay from A60.

I shouldn't dismiss the MGB motor - there's a reason they call it the "sherpa coupe", and not just because they have the same door pulls. The only difference between the van engine and the sports car engine that would make any difference is the camshaft, but the MGB wasn't exactly a screamer anyway so it should be fine.

Long time since I got involved in these but 99% sure you'd need a 3 bearing MGB lump which is quite old. There will be some fiddling around with engine back & front plates etc.

But high compression, twin carbs and big valves won't make it any worse as a van engine. wink
