Hi all!
My newly acquired 06 low mileage Maxus has no 3rd or 4th gear. The clutch is good, replaced slave and master cylinder.... 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse engage with no problems or dragging. I have replaced a worn gear linkage bush and reset the cables on the gearbox. There are no crunching or nasty noises from the gearbox or clutch... nothing happens when selecting with the gear stick? Any ideas? Ta much.

I don't know that 'box, but if it's cable operated I expect you'll ultimately be moving selector levers on the box that move the forks. Can you confirm there correct movement is happening at the box? It's possible the box has an internal failure (broken selector fork, broken gear etc) but a linkage problem seems more likely as well as much easier to fix.

It's a Daewoo gearbox. I am going to strip the dash tomorrow and check the dash mounted gearstick support bracket and bushes. Gearbox fluid change is on the cards anyway but I am still hoping it's a selector/linkage issue.

What exactly do you mean by "nothing happens"?

Does the gear lever move to where it should but you get no drive?

Does the gear lever not go to where it should?

What happens if you try to move the lever to 3/4 without the clutch but with the engine running?

What about without the engine running?

It looks like a selector fork has broken? When you change to 3rd or 4th there is nothing... no crunching ...no feeling that it's jamming... nothing other than pushing against the rubber stop on the gear stick mechanism, I have done an alignment on the mechanism and the clutch is good. Replacement gearbox is now on the shopping list
