Surely a so called expert would have suggested a dpf clean first even if it needed removing to do?
Hence why I said this earlier, not that I am an expert mind you.

Not only is it a bodge, it is illegal & if seen, an instant MOT fail.

Get it to someone who removes & cleans them properly, Google will tell you where there are many near you.

Another update. Car seems to run fine as long as I put a bottle of dpf cleaner in after I’ve filled up. Starts easier, runs smoother and no EML.

However, if I run it on just diesel, the light comes back on after 3/4 tank is used (about 350 miles), and a long run makes no difference. The car is being used for mixed distance journeys, not just short runs, which makes me think something else is amiss. I’ve read that there’s a fuel vaporiser which can get blocked and prevent the thing for regenerating.

The fact they sell so much of this stuff for Euro 6 cars makes me think the whole emissions control is flawed. The car has now done 45k miles.

I’ve got Forscan installed on my laptop so plan to do some digging at the weekend. Suggestions and observations welcome.

The vaporiser is a common problem on these. Mine was £530.00 to replace with a genuine part

edit: - mine is a Mk3.5 so may be different
