£600 inc parts is a pretty good price.

FWIW just fitted a clutch to a Passat (04), and the DMF was well within spec after 148k.

Anyone got any idea what this diagnosis is and whether its DMF related:

The noise is most significant at low engine speed under med to high load. Think of ball bearings being swirled around in a dented tin can. Not alarming loud, but loud enough to think something is the matter. Under full power or at higher rpms (above 3k) the noise seems to go away, unless it's just being masked by engine/exhaust sound.

No noise whatsoever at cruising speeds or in neutral at idle or revs. Clutch pedal dip makes no sound changes?

It's got me stumped.............

Have you had the camshaft checked? Have you had a conversion from a Dual Mass Flywheel to a Single one?

BMW, by any chance? Sounds a bit like VANOS.

In reply to the original poster, my experience of dual mas flywheel wear is a knocking noise from the bellhousing at idle and sometimes accompanied by a vibration through the clutch pedal.

In reply to Stevieturbo, yes the Audi DSG does use a DMF.
