They bet the farm on that Nettuno V6 and it just isn't playing out.

Much like AMG with the i4 hybrid C63, they thought that the car was the draw when for a large number of buyers it was the engine and emotion.

GranTurismo should have the V8 that's in the Ghibli and QP Trofeo models, then keep the Folgore EV version to placate the rule makers and California buyers.
The engine does sound good though albeit perhaps not as good as the V8. It certainly isn't competing with a 4cyl car for sound.

The Nettuno does sound decent, make no mistake. Of course it's different to a normally aspirated V8 from their older product range. But it's also more powerful, shunts you along at frankly hair raising pace at times, and is allround otherwise considerably better than the V8. No surprise though given that it's the best part of 20 years newer!

That aside, I looked at the new GT - still a beautiful car with a much more modern interior. I don't see that it's a poor relation internally to any other similar brand either. And there are really good deals to be done.

They are, however, in more than a pickle. The headline pricing inevitably puts people off, despite the real-world deals - I mean if you're thinking you fancy a red one and you know its £30k just for the paint, it's going to push you in another direction, before you get on the forecourt. If they priced the GT more around the £110-140k mark, I'm sure there would be more takers; equally if the MC20 was more like a £140-170k list price, again it would get more interest. This conveniently puts aside the costs of production etc... but maybe they'd shift some greater volumes to make these cars more viable and sustain the business.

It does seem to be that the group overall is in a bit of a mess, and not least Maserati. A great shame because the product is actually still really very good.

To say they sound bad would do it an injustice, the fact they dont sound as good as they should or even ‘did’ is more accurate.

If you hear it alongside other V6 turbo cars as a direct comparison like the GTR or Alfa you do think how the hell did they get it that wrong, though a different time period i guess, so was easier for nissan and alfa.

I owned one for a year - my sons Boxster sounded miles better. In every other way the MC20 was superb.

I really like the look of these and fancy getting one but I haven’t seen one with a nice looking set of alloys - why are they all so ugly and old fashioned?

14k miles - nice to see someone using it smile

Might as well enjoy it if it is going to empty your bank account when you sell it, regardless of whether you have used it or not biggrin lol

They are dropping like a stone, and I’m glad i got out of mine earlier in the drop (still expensive!) ..but I would think you’d lose the same amount in £ terms on a 296 GTB with 14k miles, given the difference in cost price.
MC20 has a bad rep but new Ferraris and others are being hit the same.

These cars intrigue me, I haven’t driven one but most car journalists rave about them including Steve Sutcliffe whose opinion I value the most. Footsoldier, how was the ownership experience ?

14k miles, good to see it was driven. I was loaned one from my Ferrari Dealer for 2 days. I liked it, bit of Jekyll & Hyde car, but not at 225k. Never bought a Maserati but MC20 at £100k with some miles on it, non Carbon exterior pack, I would pull the trigger.

Still would love one at some point, still not prepared to try to catch a falling knife and actually buy one when prices are collapsing and a facelifted model is apparently getting introduced this year which should introduce further downward pressure on prices I guess.

at £100k you can't lose more than everyone lost on the 296 gtb or you'd literally be giving it away

maserati is a great brand that just has more class than ferrari too and the car itself is great.

At £100-120k it seems an absolute bargain.

This was the Press Car, don’t know if that helped or hindered its value….falling knife but probably worth a cut at £100k

100k it probably would be but where is the 100k mc20? that one on CC is the cheapest i've seen at 116.5 plus presumably a buyers premium? Cheapest on AT looks 136.

This was not the press car. It had different alloys and has recently sold through Maserati.

Then 2 x Blue 14000 miles one, quite a coincidence.
