I was hugely unimpressed with the Thule offering - it clamped over the door frame rather than the roof fixings and there was no way that felt that it was going to stay put down the autoroute.

I used this type fitting kit few years ago on my 2500 miles trip in Monaro along with short roof line adaptor and worked OK. I agree the type which mounts into dedicated anchor points would be better though

Not sure I agree.... I’ve got the Thule kit and it’s held my bikes on the roof numerous times, occasionally at ‘higher’ speeds without issue.
