I suspect Peter wants to keep it all inhouse. Nothing wrong with a bit of fresh sea air mixed with the haunting aroma of the rubbish tip opposite.

Nice. I think you're prob. right about keeping it in house, although engine design was contracted out and every car company buys some components in. As for the "haunting aroma" how on earth do you smell it over the reek of the Irish Sea

nothing like a bit of salty sea air for a spot of rust

Nothing like UK weather for a spot of rust. I had my kitcar chassis powder coated and injected with Dinitrol, there was still some rust inside the chassis when the car got creamed though. How long do TVR chassis last ?

Mine's getting Waxoyled by the dealer before it gets onto the road. Reason? My Chimaera has rusty bits on the chassis members, where the wheel arches are attached. It's only 2 years old, and all the powder coating has peeled away. Not good protection...

you would have thought with all the technology thats avaliable TVR might have moved on a bit, if i was forking out 40k for a car i would at least like to have it rust free. And as for cleaning them up once they come in, its well known that once rust has a hold its difficult to ever get rid of it....and so are you saying they put the new chassis thats been rusting in the yard back into the powercoating room, i think not..... prbably a quick coat of white B & Q garage door enamel paint!

They very rarely rust. If they do before they are used on a new car, they are taken back in and shot-blasted to remove all the old coating and re-powdered.

the thing is powercoating, even at the best of times, is a outdated form of protection. We all know after a short time it hardens and cracks. As a former porsche owner, who as we know galvanise all their bodyshells, ive never understood why TVR dont go down this route as well? i mean it cant be that expensive as lotus do the same.

i mean.....before lotus used ali for their chassis, they used to galvanise their steel ones. im tired now...i'll get me coat ... but i still think plastic coating is cheap, nasty and crude.

This is barmy ! Surely it would make a lot more sense to use a form of coating which doesn't fall off when you leave it outside. Epoxy powder coating (as used for garage doors, bus shelters etc.)is pretty much bomb proof. Galvanising would also seem to make sense. Another TVR 'trick' is to use ali rivets into steel. This causes corrosion in double quick time and may well be the cause of the rusting to nubbin's vehicle. Every time a chassis has to be stripped and recoated time and money is lost, whatever happened to "right first time" ?
