On the 18" spiders (stock width on Tamora) what tyre width can you get away with front and rear? the fronts are stretched at 225/35 and the rears look like they could handle more than 235/40.

I wanted to fit some a048s or r888s to the car but the sizes are different...any thoughts?

I would have thought you could easily go 255/35/18 on the back and 245/30/18 on the fronts, perhaps 245/35/18.

The front wheel wells usually struggle with 225/40x18s though some fare better than others.
The rears are usually safe with 255/35x18s .
However a lot is dependant on suspension/settings and if your body shell is amenable to the wider or taller tyres.

255/40 on the rear works fine. Wider tyres on the front will rub the light access panels unless you have modded them which you have.

255/40 sounds a little tall and I'd have thought would rub a lot as its significantly taller than the original 235/40 whereas the 255/35 is a smidgeon under and thus helps keep the tyre away from the top on the inner arch on bump.

Got 265/35R18's on the back of mine & 225/40R18's front, the fronts rub a bit on full lock but nothing to worry about, the rears are fine... Tyres are Toyo R1R's shame they don't do a 225/35R18 ???

Is that a Sagaris or T350?/Tamora?

Is that on standard 8.5 rears?

Tyres with a width of 265mm require a rim width of 9.5" for optimum fit and thus optimum performance.
This, 9.5" width, I think is the rim width of the 19" diameter wheels from TVR power.

They, the 265mm tyres can be persuaded to fit onto a rim as narrow as 9" and as wide as 10.5"
But both of these situations now detract from the optimum fit size and thus the performance of the tyre becomes compromised and so somewhat a pointless exercise. As surely one is looking for the best performance from the tyres. The side wall situation of the tyre is a very important part of the tyres performance and if compromised by rim width, too narrow or too wide the performance will suffer.

The 255 width tyre is optimised to a rim width of 8.5" As one finds on the popular aftermarket 18" diameter wheels.

Regards.
Speed eight.

Toyo's specs for their R1R's. I have gone 255/35 on the rears and 225/40 on the fronts. Standard 18" spiders.

Cheers. Lee.
