on the brakes do you mean the calipers are slightly rusty or the brake disc hubs?

of course the face of the discs will rust over time if stood...the hubs will go too eventually...especially if the previous owners have used acidic wheel cleaning stuff like Wonder Wheels etc. I have the hubs on brand new discs rust within weeks after mistakenly using that stuff before.

On most new discs they do have a laquer coating on the hubs, so just make sure to use soap n water or Citrus based wheel cleaner to stop it happening in the future

Its the hubs, and yes as you say more than likely rusted from acid cleaners...shame they cant give a more durable coating to prevent this though.

Just a suggestion. If someone thinking they were doing good has taken into one of those hand wash places where they blast the wheels with an acid cleaner, while the discs may be fine after a good hard seesion, it might be worth taking the wheels off, cleaning them inside and out and giving then a bloody good polish in case they start corroding. Just a comment from a crusty old obsessive. You are supposed to clean these YOURSELF not get a bunch of Romanians to do it.

I remember one of my more exotic girlfriends. Persian extraction if I remember right. Out in the car, immaculate, naturally, car AND man. 'I spent the morning on it'.'You mean you clean it yourself?'
