I dont think it looks as bad as people on here think, and I think they know their target market pretty well, footballers wives in Cheshire and Hollywood producers mistresses.

But, can someone explain the kudos of the Aston badge to me. Okay they were in an iconic Bond film and they had some Royal approval in the eighties for their ladder framed, pseudo kit car monstrosities that they made then. But so what.

I await correction.

Looks stunning, all except the back end.
Im sure a facelift model will sort this out though, always seems to happen.

The kudos behind the badge is the fact that they are exquisite hand-built luxury GT cars. But then when you look at why that makes anything worthy of "Kudos" then you start to doubt everything that is perceived as a luxury item.

Why pay more for a suit from Gieves and Hawkes when a Boss one does the job and come to think of it so does one from Burtons? A watch tells the same time whether or not Rolex or Patek Phillipe makes it over a Seiko or Casio. It is an emotional brand. Just like Ferrari.

When you see these cars being made and the quality that goes into them (85 man hours to hand paint a single Aston - 5 hours to tank paint an XK8) then you start to appreciate their following. I personally don't like Ferraris, but I see their appeal.

Now if you will excuse me, I have a soapbox to varnish.

You pay more for a saville row suit becuase its made for you, not an off-the shelf job. A watch is a personal thing, and many people treasure them.

And, to quote an old adage, you don't buy an Aston Martin. You have one made. You want blue piping on the armrest?? Certainly, sir...

Its a cliche, but many people agonise over choosing the spec of their Aston, and keep them for a long time...

Quote An Aston Martin is for those who like to wear their labels on the inside and that is what the DB9 is about. Svelte, seductive and toned.

I agree and you need to be driving it to know the difference between AM and other cars. Drove a 355 spider and it was a mess. Drove a 550 and it was without refinement. Owned a SL 55AMG and sent it back after a month cos it had lots of heart but no soul. The DB7 is in a class all of its own. It is all very well to chuck cars around corners on TV but in the real world it is more difficult, so it is how you feel after six months ownership that counts. The DB9 will look better in the flesh and will depend upon the colour. Never liked the tail end of the Vanquish though and the nine is similar don't you think.

Hey can someone tell me how you get the quote box and legends!!!

At the top of the passage you want to quote there is a button called "quote". Click on this, and write as normally. When writing, on the left hand side there is "smiles legend". Click on this to display a list of silly icons designed to bemuse and confuse a technophobe like me.

regards,

Will

Okay, I understand the reputation of the marque a little better now.

However, that begs the question, how will their lower priced models effect the brand?

That was the point I WAS making. Aston Martin is in my blood and I will defend its honour to the end!!

As an Aston driver I appreciate the marque and what it stands for.

I much prefer the coupe version of the DB9, which is sublime. The car was designed to look like it was "milled from a single piece of aluminum" and it shows. I think the DB9 will do very well here in the US for those looking for something truly special, rare and fast but with young family capability. Honestly, there is so few special 2+2 out there that look this good. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti doesn't do it for me. This car does.

IMHO the DB9 (and the Vanquish for that matter)has lost what previous Astons had that set them apart from all others.....sublime subtle English nobility.

There appears to be a desire, since the intro of the Vanquish to produce Hollywood-in your face-cars full to the brim of standard performance car cliche styling backed up by the full advertising/marketing monster of modern business, and thus AM becomes yet another luxury/performance manufacturer.

As im a non-Englishman i can say that without being accused of banging the patriotic drum.

DB7 beats it hands down for style and road presence alone.

Watched Johnny English last night - don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing - however it convinced me that a DB7 in midnight blue has to be the best loking car ever made! I want one! Rich...

No No No DB7 only looks good in light colours such as Silvers ,not yellow though.
