Nissan Skyline GT-R

Has anyone driven a skyline? I've heard so much about its electronic gadgetry etc.. but does it really work? Is it just a performance car for people who can't drive properly?
I've seen a few in magazines tuned by Veilside, Jun and Blitz, some of them push out over 1000BHP.. I quite like the R33, but the styling of the R34 looks a bit bland (although i've never seen an R34 in the flesh).
What are the limitations when tuning these cars up? do they loose reliability?

I'm sure David Yu (Evo contributor) could tell you a few tales about tuning a Skyline....I think it's probably cheaper running the F355 he got to replace it with (or then again, maybe not!)

Sorry, but I've just read this 'thread'. In terms of tuning an R33 GTR Skyline, the ECU will need to be changed, as will the Air Box, but to get any 'more' power - above 380ish, you'll also need to ditch the ceramic turbo's in favour of steel ones. If you're interested in tuning an R33 GTS (rear wheel drive and single turbo) then you'll also need to change the turbo intercooler as is it TINY!! The best people (in my opion) to talk to are Middlehurst Motorsport in St Helens - (01744) 26681 as they are to sole official Skyline dealer and have been looking after mine for over 3 years. what kind of money are these skylines then? would i buy a decent one for say 12-15k?

I used to own an R33 GTR. Brilliant car, but I decided that I wanted to drive the car, and not let the computers do it.

For 12-15k you'll get a decent R32 GTR, or you might find a high-mileage R33 GTR. I'd go for the R32, but remember that these cars are NOT cheap to run, especially if you get an attack of "David Yu" Syndrome (ie: tuning costs spiralling out of control, for anyone that doesn't read EVO).
