Had to share this story with you guys.

Was cruising back from Eastbourne along the A27 in the CTR when some muppet in a 206 GTi decides he wants to examine my bumper for a 10 mile stretch. As such this irritated me, not because he was having a go, mainly because if I braked at any point his car would be in my back seats.

Anyway I just ignored him until we reached a two lane section at which point I had a chance to overtake the cars in front of me. I pull out, he pulls out still on my bumper.

60mph, down to third gear and give it some welly and....

Well I don't know what gave him the idea he had a fast car but I think I changed that guys perception of the Honda. It was just embarrassing, he just disappeared in to a small point in my mirror and I was laughing like a loony!

Got to the limiter in forth and promptly used the brakes to wind the car down to a gentle cruise again. About a minute later he appeared behind me as I slowed for a roundabout... did look a bit dejected to say the least and promptly turned off the road.

Yes I know what I did was childish, and I should have let him go past but I swear it was the most satisfying thing that has happened on the road for me in a long time!!

Yep, good aren't they, chap in a Clio Williams just stared at me as I went past him, don't think he was expecting it would be so easy for me. BMW 328Ci driver had a shock when he couldn't overtake and another one when I easily kept up round a roundabout and he was on the brink of oversteer. He was really giving some and I could easily keep up.
Just as good as my old Scooby, though I do miss being to blast out of roundabouts, especially in the wet.

It's always so warming to hear tales of instances such as you describe, it makes me realise I'm not the only kid out there.
It beggers belief that a fellow hot hatch driver would even try to make a fool of himself in that way.
In my experience the worst drivers for sitting on your bumper are in the new Golf Diesels. I have no idea what makes them believe they have a set of genuinely fast wheels below them, but I get hassled by one every time I go anywhere near the A50. I recon they must all wait for me.

Lol - I'm the same however after reading some stories on other bbs its apparent that their are some less than mature owners appearing. I predict the CTR will get a bad name soon as more and more hit the streets.

Young 20 somethings with 200 bhp is not a good thing imo.

Let's hope it doesn't get too bad an image, I don't want my insurance premium to reflect some other tits behavior.

Although I do have my boy-racer moments, I do take care not to piss anyone off or try to provoke any kind of bad reaction from other road users. But showing a clean pair of heels to someone giving you grief on a nice bit of road is really satisfying.

Anyway, the CTR doesn't seem to have the aggressive image as given out by a Scooby or Cossie so I would hope 'lads' would pick something else. This was one of the main reasons I prefered the CTR to be honest.

I hope I haven't given you the impression of being a boy racer, although the way I feel today (the big 3-0) the word boy does make me feel slightly better! Having had serious performance cars since the age of 23 I have found that the need to race everything and anything with a spoiler or big set of wheels has dissapeared and instead I try not to provoke the XR2 crowd and leave well alone as this only ever leads to trouble (I too am concerned about the cost of my premium). The instances I refered to took place at a safe distance on safe roads, ie when I said the BM couldn't overtake I was on the inside lane and he in the middle lane on an empty, straight stretch of the M25, we both turned off together and when we both stopped at a roundabout a smile and a wave were exchanged, instead of the usual boy racer W!"£$R sign and the the customary carving up, just cos you dared to beat their Nova 1.2 with £4k's worth of stereo!
The aggressive looking front of the Scooby was quite good at times (people moved over for it on the motorway) and at others it was bad (everybody and their brother wanted to race it).

The Griff is a completely different ball game.

Hope I didn't get the wrong end of the stick and got my high horse out for nothing.

Well, I had my first proper boy racer moment since I got my CTR 4500miles ago this weekend & I'm an old 20 something. 270degrees around a roundabout, following a Ford Escort RS Turbo circa 1990, pull on to dual carriageway, puff of smoke from said Ford, pull right second gear, 4000, 5000, VTEC, redline, third gear, redline, check mirror, pull left. NICE. The CTR stuck like glue under power as the dual carriageway curved to the left & then to the right.
It's just a pity he didn't have any mates in the car to take this piss out of him. My girlfriend, pooch & lots of shopping enjoyed the moment though.

I am not saying that 'we' all are - I too have had a few mad moments when I first got the car. I ignore people hanging on to the bumper these days as I know that they are not going to be any competition

The best place to get the most from the car is on a trackday. Our younger friends will not think of this as they have chucked all their money into insurance already. 1 year away from 30 myself I'm paying close to 1500 quid and as said above foolish antics by owners are going to make renewals more expensive.

This is just a general comment btw and not aimed at any instance above.

Its with 2 years ncb (40% off) through Direct Line. Its not where I live that is the problem its the tally of points currently at 6 but 12 in the last 5 years (woops).

Doing 30k miles a year you expect to get caught at least once. Quick example of the last time I got done - 84mph on the M1 on a Sunday night - harsh.

I don't know Broccoli, I think it's you I've got to worry about when it comes to insurance premiums, obviously you drive far too fast and are a danger to society, as I have a clean license and no accidents in the last 5 years. You should practice what you preach.

Luv ya really.

Well done Sir, just wait till it's run-in!!

Has anyone else done the driving course that comes free with the car? I just about to go off and have mine, will let you know what I think.

What driving course is this then? Is that just with your dealer or comes as part of the deal?

It's an advanced driver training course that is free to anyone who buys a CTR in the UK. It's really good, the wife and I got an ex-traffic cop of 31 years who also did police driver training. Excellent, really worth taking the time to do, I think everyone should take up the opportunity no mater how good a driver they think they are, someone like this can always point out something to improve the way you drive, certainly did with me and it bloody works too.
Just ask your dealer for the details of the Honda MAC driving course.

It's done in your car and they come to you. Excellent is all I can say.

If the government put as much money into this sort of thing for all drivers as they do for "safety cameras" then the accident rate would tumble and we would all be happier bunnies when driving around due to the lack of numptie drivers.
