Has anyone else had any problems with their folding mirrors becoming noisy? The drivers side one of my girlfriends 2014 one has started making a loud creaking noise when folding in - wondering if it can be disassembled and greased up.

Mine did this occasionally, especially in cold and damp weather. Cured with a prodigious spray of silicon / PTFE in the gaps under the mirror.

OK insurance, am 49, clean licence, no accidents, and am find quotes in an around 500! Which seems steep. Live in South east which doesn't help, Luton helps even less.

Now OK, I have spent many years driving cheap shopping cars, but last time I drove anything decent the hoke was not massive, I pay around 250 now for a 1.6 Mazda.

Are there any decent places that might help with better quotes other than the mainstream multi quote sites. Cheapest so far is 430, but I will have to top up existing policy first.

mines half that with all mods included and an agreed value. I use greenlight due to having a cage a lot of places wont touch it. Try someone like Chris Knott or Greenlight themselves always used both for my cars and not been beaten.

My Swift insurance is due in a few weeks so need to sort a few other mods on my policy and try upping the agreed value.

LV were cheap for me last time. Under £200 fully comp, modest excess. I’m a bit younger than you.

Not sure why the online quotes are so insane

If you are getting a quote for 200 surely that cannot be right, must be due to location I would guess

£168 fully comp for me and my wife, both 49 living in Wiltshire, that's with well known insurers ( LV, Aviva etc). 7,000 miles per year, £250 excess.

Not sure why your quotes are so high...

I honestly think it is just location sadly. I have got it down to 430. but a lot of people, Aviva, quite a few would not even insure it. Swinton was 670!!

Morning all,

After much procrastination, finally settled on a SSS to replace OH's perishing X plate Polo.

Budget of around £3k, could probably creep it slightly. I am NOT a car expert in the slightest, and can see from this thread that there are many on here.

Would be grateful if anybody comes across any good examples (history, condition etc), and could give me a heads up.

All help greatly appreciated. Cheers.

At that money it will be a mk1 so I'd buy one like above then use the extra grand for full service/ tyres and bits and Bob's

Thanks for that much appreciated. Having been looking a few days now, a budget creep to around £4k seems to be in order. As before, if anybody comes across any decent looking examples of be really grateful for a heads up.

Tom is a good guy. I’ve bought some Swift bits off him recently.

Morning all,

Still on the lookout for the right SSS for me (or OH to be precise). Decided a 5 door is needed now, which obviously narrows the search significantly.

I am extremely tempted by the following:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202101017...

I am NO car is expert, so want to be sure before pulling the trigger. The car is nearly 200 miles from me, so can't easily go and view it. I have asked about service history etc which all seems fine.

I have asked about any signs of rust underneath, which the seller assures me is a no.

If I I do buy it, it's going to be a case of making the decision remotely and travelling to pick up. I wonder if any of you would be able to tell me if it seems a good pick, in terms of apparent condition, price etc? And if there are any other things I should be asking the seller?

I'm aware I'm probably being over cautious, but very much appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance!

Looks good. Decent price given 5 door and the most popular colour.

Maybe worth asking what the tyres are like / brand and tread.

Being so light you need a decent tyre. Its pretty miserable driving these on ditchfinders.

If it’s as good as it looks it will sell quickly at this price imo so don’t hang around if you want it.

He's reduced it twice already, I've been watching 5 door Swift Sports for a while but I'd like one with Nav for DAB. It's been on sale for a few weeks, started off just below £6000.

Ah that's interesting, thanks for the info. Maybe he's struggling to shift because of the nav? Hopefully no other underlying reason, as it's gonna be a day off work and a pricey train ticket 😄
