I did a MLR 30-130 back in the day , my Evo 6 with 350hp recorded the same time as a 450hp Evo X , we did a few runs each, assume its was due to weight and gearing
The manual Xs were 5 speed, SST 6 speedBut even with my RS gearbox I can’t see me equaling a 100bhp deficit, no way!
Did you know the owner of the X? LOTS of owners with IDEAS of their car’s power!

This was 10 years ago , he had a dyno from Indigo GT but who's to say how well it was running, truth be told mine was sick as well and needed a new engine shortly afterwards, the final drive was different between his car and mine as mine wouldnt go faster than 149.95mph due to gearing the X was limited to 165 but seem to recall he got 168mph.But even with my RS gearbox I can’t see me equaling a 100bhp deficit, no way!

Sounds like a terrible comparison to use as a reference then.liner33 said:

I don’t really know what power my 6 has for sure, it has fuel pump, injectors, “spoolin up” coils, HKS induction kit, HKS turbo, cams and an ECUTEK (with rods and pistons) it does feel good with the gearbox but I don’t really know the power, I had it dyno’d YEARS ago but I got the feeling at the time that the mapper wanted to impress me!don logan said:

I taught myself to map the car using opensource software, dont think I did the injectors but pics are earlier in this thread, had a titanium turbo off a Evo 9 RS and ended with a Evo 8 engine with the later cams , took it as far as I dared with stock rods 410hp/400ft lbs on Charlies Dyno at SRR but i was more focussed on the all round package than just chasing numbers liner33 said:

I was just too scared not to do the rods and then the usual thing happened - well, might as well do the pistons while we are here etc etc blah blah blah, same old story, I did the injectors because I wanted some more boost without getting too lean, when it was at it’s leanest it was QUICK! I think the guy said 460 or something, but I don’t think that’s possible with my turbo, I’ve got the print out smewhere from 10 years agoElatino1 said:
The X was always known to be more grown up, less raw and less fun as a result. The auto gearbox gets bad reviews too. The Subaru of the time was a better car in just about every way.
It always puzzled me why they introduced an auto gearbox, the only reason I can think is that's how the world was going with newer autos being quicker and sometimes more efficient ( not that the word "evo" and "efficient" should ever be in the same sentence ) don logan said:
No, it wasn’t the engine, it’s not ss if the 4G63 has loads of character BTW, it’s hardly a BMW M engine or Ferrari V8, it was the overall feel of the car, it was a lot more like a normal car, so it was a muted EVO and that’s not the point at all, I’d rather not have an EVO at all.
When you say EVOs aren’t light, compared to what? A Lotus?
A 6 GSR was around 1350kgs (RS about 100kgs lighter) about the same as the much smaller integrale, the new GR Yaris is 1250? And it’s TINY, EVOs were hardly lardy!
And while we are on that subject, if it wasn’t going to be a daily driver you should be looking at RS models, they are lighter and very different to drive, I’m not being biased but these are THE ONES!
People overlook the 7 because they have such rose tinted spectacles about the 6 but they are great in RS spec, the body was 50% stiffer on the GSR and the RS was even stronger!
They also seem to be the hidden bargain
See if you can find info on EVO magazine’s EVO 7 RS Sprint, it was a 7RS with a mild boost increase and exhaust
I wouldn’t buy another GSR
Ok, I shall keep my eye out for an RS if I do see one. Thanks When you say EVOs aren’t light, compared to what? A Lotus?

Because they create lower 0-60 times for those that are impressed by such things!Super_G said:
There are many 4 pot turbo petrol out there. Why are the service intervals so short and possibly expensive on these evos?
What other 4pot turbos were putting out 300+ bhp in 1998-2007?The Impreza is also 6monthly services.
Also these intermediate services are oil changes mainly, not expensive at all.

from my misty memories of ownership I recall that some of the suspension trickery in the 8 that I owned needed regular attention Active Yaw Control springs to mind....MRONEILL said:
I currently have an evo 9 fq340. Love it. Had a golf R stave 2 before it and just didn't enjoy driving it as im used to jap cars.
If you get a good one you won't regret it
As lots say, it certainly isn't a daily driver. I use mine on dry days etc. Such a fun thing to be in.
That's sat low, have you put coilovers on?If you get a good one you won't regret it
