I'm booked in at Cooper. 06 E91 330d. I won't be taking any payment methods with me. Might check the alloys for cracks as well whilst I'm at it.

This is what I don't understand. Why is there no update for my 06 E91 330i M Sport?

The guy I spoke to in service did seem genuine, i.e., I didn't get the impression he wasn't being honest.

I might ring a couple of other local dealers and see what they say.

There also seems to be some confusion about what the update (sorry "enhancement" as BMW keep calling it) will fix. The dealer that my wife's car's going into tells me the only thing it addresses is the window drop issue when using the key in the driver door.

As above. I believe this is the only thing the 'enhancement' updates. My good friend works at a dealership as a technician and has told me the same.
It also changes the way a new key is matched to the car. You must now have an existing key in the dash for a new one to be assigned.

Has anyone confirmed this to be the case? I know you've mentioned this a few times on this forum, but has anyone actually tried this following the update?

And if this behaviour has been changed (and let's all hope it has), then why are BMW denying that the update does anything more than stopping the windows from being dropped using the key?

It's because that's what the dealers have been told by BMW. Mine had the update early this year and keys can't be assigned like they used to.

I've just got back from having my E92 M3 update installed. I've proven that the windows drop on the fob and that they don't on the actual metal key. They quoted me £180 to do a full update of every module on the car which I may them up on in the future. I'm much happier now as its an extra layer of protection.. smile

I'm intrigued to see how long it will take for a post-updated BMW to be stolen. I assume this simple update doesn't make our Beamers un-stealable and that over time the thieves may well find a way around this new set-up. I'm not saying this will happen but I'm very intrigued to see if it will.

From the way this has rolled on getting bigger and bigger I think you will probably be correct about the thieves adapting to the new security. There has to be a real change IMO for security to be re-established on these cars. Time will tell.

Assuming the update does change the key coding process, I suspect we'll see a significant drop in BMW thefts, which outweighs a small increase in houses being broken into to steal car keys, as the less determined car thieves give up on this area of crime and the more determined ones find other ways to take the cars.

Do Audi's have a blind spot in the alarm as well?

My understanding is that the BMW issue is because of the blind spot and the ability to programme keys easily.

Had the "update" on my E60 done this morning and can confirm that windows no longer drop via the door lock but still via the remote other than cannot comment on what else or hasn't been done.

Mine is booked in for early December. I called to inquire about what was going on and they said in PL that that they have just only received the software fix. I had not to wait very long for an appointment. Apparently the time to do the fix was about 90 minutes. I asked what the fix was all about and they did not know very much.

Pre march 07 is not included. Cant see why my build date Dec 06 would be so different from a March 07 tbh.

Again, maybe I'm missing something, but how are people on this forum booking their pre 07 cars in for an update, when the general consensus is that there is no update for pre 07 cars?

Stop being a troll. There are no issues with Audi's as they put decent security precautions in their cars unlike BMW.

I'd say you we're the one doing the trolling seeing this is a BMW forum.

It's now sold but I was called for my 56 plate 530d to be sorted. At the time of it all seemingly kicking off and cars going regularly on here, I rang the number, insisted I was aware of other similarly aged cars being taken and they said they would be in touch....which they were...

I'm now contacting BMW with re to my build date of Dec 2006.It seems that BMW might believe cars before march 2007 don't have the window roll down feature with the key turned in the lock. Not sure if my car had this feature when it was built, however 18 months ago it was off the road at BMW for approx 6 weeks after an accident and they did plug the car in and update it whilst it was there sop it might have been added then ?
My windows do roll down with the key turned in the lock so I'm going to keep contacting BMW for them to at least disable this feature on my car.I don't use this feature anyway.
I'm going to keep at them until they cave in.

ETA: Just phoned my local dealer,I had phoned them before and they dismissed me saying March 2007 don't worry.
After phoning them again and telling them I have read the PDF which states BMW are disabling the key window roll down and my car does roll down the windows on the key they have booked me in to have a look and if need be disable the window roll down and whatever update.
They didn't try to deter me at all with the March 07 speech.
Booked in 14th dec need the car for upto 2 hours.

I was on the upgrade list via the helpdesk - Sytner HQ called last Wednesday and booked the car in for today.

It took about an hour and a half all in.

Would have been 2 hours if I hadn't stepped in to stop them spending time washing it - The fact it's pi55ing it down didn't seem to make any sense to them . . . .
Another thing I've just noticed - when pressing the key fob once to open the doors, both now unlock whereas before only the drivers would open - two presses were required to open both.
